How did you come up with the idea of idea of creating a world record? I am a member of the International Council of Dance that has its headquarters in Paris. They sent me a letter saying I should do something to create awareness about International Dance Day which is on April 29. I decided to do something free for the public to raise awareness and create interest in dance. I called up the team of Guinness World Records ?Ab India Todega on Colors and inquired if I could attempt to break a record in dancing on April 29. But I was shocked to know that they were wrapping up the show in a week. Even the Adjudicator Mr. Rob Molly was all set to return to UK, so I had to complete my task in few days.

Were there any other difficulties you faced in completing this task? The day we had to attempt our feat was a day before Holi, so not many girls participated. Even parents were hesitant to allow their children to dance in the sun. It was the love for dance and the support of my fans who braved the sun, the girls braved the balloons and made it to the venue. The whole group learnt the dance routine in just an hour which was mesmerizing. Even Rob commented that he has never seen a world record where people did things so fast. |
What was your first reaction after your feat was successful? I just looked up towards heaven and said thank you God you helped me accomplish this record. I could have easily done it with 2-3 weeks preparation but doing so much in three days, I think it is the hand of God. I do not take any credit for it. |
What was the reaction of your family and friends? Friends and family have been very supportive. My father was quite amazed by how well co-ordinated people were. A lot of friends and family called to say that they are very happy. This record also makes India proud because previously the records were held by China and Australia which is unfair because a Bollywood dance record is being broken by foreigners. I really wanted to bring the honour back to India so this award is for all Indians and Mumbaites. I accept the award on behalf of the entire film industry.

Do you plan to break your own record? We plan to break our own record next month itself, at least we are hoping to do so. |
Now that your show Chak Dhoom Dhoom has ended do you plan to take up any new shows? I have gone from Dance India Dance to Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi to Nachle Ve and then Chak Dhoom Dhoom. I have had a full year of television and want to take a break now to learn dance and explore myself as a dancer and choreographer. I want go abroad and study about new dance styles that are coming up to keep myself abreast.

Are you choreographing for any films currently? Films require a lot of commitment and time. I travel a lot so so it's hard to commit to films but if it is just a song or two, I will take it up. I don't have very strong marketing and PR skills so I don't push myself into films, I just check if any interesting stuff comes my way. I am lucky that work has always come to me and I haven't had to knock on any doors. I have no fixed plans as I go by the flow but just want to excel at whatever I do. |
