Hello friends, today I have organized "discussion of the week "for you .And the theme is
I know many of you aware with the title as it is one of the ever green classic of Jane Austen. It's the book that describes us that how deadly this two terms can be when they combined together. O.k. even I have hyped the topic, Friends here we are discussing these two terms, pride and prejudice separately and their cause and effect relationship.
Pride is an emotion, very subjective in nature, It's a status of mind when a person thinks high, excellent of oneself. The presence of distaste for other indicates pride. The reason behind pride is hate or vanity. Pride filled with the hate does not acknowledge social concept, responsibility, such person only care for their independence and prefer to be left alone. Pride, when reflected through vanity, such person judge all issue in black and white terms. There avails no scope of moderation, flexibility. They believe that they could not be wrong.
There are 3M's, Money ( wealth), Muscles( power) and all other materialistic things of the world including beauty, people proud of...but materialistic thing have its logical end...does pride has its logical end?.
Prejudice is an opinion generally based on either inadequate or wrong information. Sometimes it also happens that you do have correct information but you perceive something out of smug and condescend behavior of someone that you are not able to draw the sketch of their character properly. Prejudices allow us to fill in the blanks when we are unable or should I say unwilling to obtain all the information; we would need to make fair judgment. A prejudice often evolves from fear, guilt or blame. These prejudices are innocently created and perpetuates.
( Note: friends , I have confession to made, I have select this subject as this is the title of my favorite book and I'm kind of attracted to it. But when I did research , surfing on net, I came to know it's too wide subject to discuss as it involves sub issues like discrimination , racism and gender bias. No one among us have that much capabilities and maturity to handle it. So I am strictly confined this topic to the question level , do not try to exaggerate things.)
I know I haven't done justice to the topic . I'm neither literature nor psychology student , but I have tried and find it real difficult. Well I'm placing few questions for all of us that will help us to insight this topic more.
1. According to you, what is pride, a sin or a virtue, a good or a bad?
2. Except 3 M's , what could be other reason that ignite pride in oneself?
3. Are pride and prejudice compatible of each other?
4. What is probability of your prejudices? Or How many times your judgment proved correct ?
5. If you have read Jane Austen's 'pride and prejudice', are you believe that destiny is too generous with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, otherwise with this much pride and prejudice for each other , a love story is possible?
6. Justify Aarati's behavior towards her mother, Savitri at Bapuji's funeral?.
Well Friends, here is DOTW for you, try to answer as many as possible?
