Hello friends, today I have organized "discussion of the week "for you .And the theme is

I know many of you aware with the title as it is one of the ever green classic of Jane Austen. It's the book that describes us that how deadly this two terms can be when they combined together. O.k. even I have hyped the topic, Friends here we are discussing these two terms, pride and prejudice separately and their cause and effect relationship.

Pride is an emotion, very subjective in nature, It's a status of mind when a person thinks high, excellent of oneself. The presence of distaste for other indicates pride. The reason behind pride is hate or vanity. Pride filled with the hate does not acknowledge social concept, responsibility, such person only care for their independence and prefer to be left alone. Pride, when reflected through vanity, such person judge all issue in black and white terms. There avails no scope of moderation, flexibility. They believe that they could not be wrong.

There are 3M's, Money ( wealth), Muscles( power) and all other materialistic things of the world including beauty, people proud of...but materialistic thing have its logical end...does pride has its logical end?.

Prejudice is an opinion generally based on either inadequate or wrong information. Sometimes it also happens that you do have correct information but you perceive something out of smug and condescend behavior of someone that you are not able to draw the sketch of their character properly. Prejudices allow us to fill in the blanks when we are unable or should I say unwilling to obtain all the information; we would need to make fair judgment. A prejudice often evolves from fear, guilt or blame. These prejudices are innocently created and perpetuates.

( Note: friends , I have confession to made, I have select this subject as this is the title of my favorite book and I'm kind of attracted to it. But when I did research , surfing on net, I came to know it's too wide subject to discuss as it involves sub issues like discrimination , racism and gender bias. No one among us have that much capabilities and maturity to handle it. So I am strictly confined this topic to the question level , do not try to exaggerate things.)

I know I haven't done justice to the topic . I'm neither literature nor psychology student , but I have tried and find it real difficult. Well I'm placing few questions for all of us that will help us to insight this topic more.

1. According to you, what is pride, a sin or a virtue, a good or a bad?

2. Except 3 M's , what could be other reason that ignite pride in oneself?

3. Are pride and prejudice compatible of each other?

4. What is probability of your prejudices? Or How many times your judgment proved correct ?

5. If you have read Jane Austen's 'pride and prejudice', are you believe that destiny is too generous with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, otherwise with this much pride and prejudice for each other , a love story is possible?

6. Justify Aarati's behavior towards her mother, Savitri at Bapuji's funeral?.

Well Friends, here is DOTW for you, try to answer as many as possible?

----->> fab topic choosen by u foram dear๐Ÿ‘
i found it tough to answer some of the Qs...

I know I haven't done justice to the topic . I'm neither literature nor psychology student , but I have tried and find it real difficult. Well I'm placing few questions for all of us that will help us to insight this topic more.

1. According to you, what is pride, a sin or a virtue, a good or a bad?

according to me, i feel pride the satisfaction i get from my achievements.. what i have achieved till date...๐Ÿ˜Š

i feel pride will be a sin or bad only when a person thinks too highly abt oneself๐Ÿคข (self-obsessed๐Ÿคข) and feels dat other ppl in this world r worthles..๐Ÿ˜ก

2. Except 3 M's , what could be other reason that ignite pride in oneself?

for me, the other reasons that ignite pride in me are my parents, friends, the values given to me, and my relatives๐Ÿ˜›

3. Are pride and prejudice compatible of each other?

yes, to some extent they can be compatible with each other... of often ppl who have too much of pride about oneself make pre-concieved judgement abt others...!!!!

4. What is probability of your prejudices? Or How many times your judgment proved correct ?

I do become judgemental about people whom i going to met... i hardly observe ppl unlike my sisters... Well , i can say the probability of my prejudice is 30 to 40%... It has happened in my life that... twice or thrice , my judgement about people has been proved wrong too... aftr i met those people...

5. If you have read Jane Austen's 'pride and prejudice', are you believe that destiny is too generous with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, otherwise with this much pride and prejudice for each other , a love story is possible?

Wow..!๐Ÿ˜› My fav book๐Ÿ˜ณ Yes.. i do feel the same.. He intially had high airs about his wealth, status, etc and she had pre-concieved notion/prejudice about him... Only after they came closer in the bid to find the truth about Wickham, they came closer to each other๐Ÿ˜ณ Also, they were truthful and honest to each other throughout..๐Ÿ˜› so this can aslo be another reason for them to come close๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜

6. Justify Aarati's behavior towards her mother, Savitri at Bapuji's funeral?.

Yes.. her behavior is justified to certain extent.. she had lost her bapuji to whom she was so close and he was like a fatherly figure to her... in short she has lost someone so close to her in her life that no one else can replace that void...

So she was not mentally stable at that moment.. and at that moment her biological mother all of a sudden turns up and tries to comfort her...!!!!! Obviously her old wounds opened up... at savitri's words and she gave that outburst/her pent up anger/frustration at her biological mother...

We all know from yesterday 9th june 2011 episode, she accepts her mistake and regrets the fact about shouting at her biological mother...

From aartis' point of view... aarti has been neglected a lot as a child...! rejection from her biological mother, she never got a proper family at whom she can fall back on...! Just coz savitri is her biological mother... she cant be forgiven for what she did to her child aarti years ago...๐Ÿ˜ก So in a way, aarti has every right to ask savitri about the wrong she did to her years ago..!!

(my ma while watching the serial last nite with me.. made me understand aarti's view point... abt her outburst dat v all saw in Maha Epi...)

Finally I'm here!๐Ÿ˜› And before I start answering..I mus say fab topic foram!๐Ÿ‘ Well ppl can say me biased as this is related to one of my very fav novel๐Ÿ˜‰ but on a serious note..very hatke topic..and I simply loved itโญ๏ธ

Before I begin..jus wanna say something! Foram, here you mentioned "The presence of distaste for other indicates pride. The reason behind pride is hate or vanity" I slightly disagree here..as I feel one can have a sense of pride without hating someone generally and when it comes to vanity, mos of the time it is concerned with false prides! There are ppl who are proud with real reasons, but their pride doesn't bother other ppl unnecessarily! Well, now I shud shut up n start with the questionnaire๐Ÿ˜› (sorry foram..u knw its my real bad habit..poking my big nose everywhere๐Ÿ˜† and no one knows better than you๐Ÿ˜ณ)

So here we go๐Ÿฅณ

1. According to you, what is pride, a sin or a virtue, a good or a bad?

Before I answer this..I wanna share the definition of "Pride" here!

i) The consciousness of one's own dignity!

ii) A feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements!

iii) The quality of having an excessively high opinion of oneself or one's importance!

As we see in 3 different ways "Pride" has been described. So if I go by the 1st one..I feel pride is a very much essential quality that each human being shud possess! for the 2nd one, acceptable till some extent if one can very well know where is the limit line of this emotion! and the last one is the most pathetic aspect of the word pride..where the person dsnt even have real reasons for being proud!

What I wanna say is..its very much relative..and the attributes of pride solely depends on the particular person/situation.

2. Except 3 M's, what could be other reason that ignite pride in oneself?

Actually the definition of 3rd M is very much vast and it's estimated by personal pov. What I feel there are some factors like havn a better upbringing, good frrnds, an enviable life partner or a genius kid can be the one's! even one's country can set a sense of pride within a person๐Ÿ˜Š

3. Are pride and prejudice compatible of each other?

No everytime..as again its very much situational, but yes pride can reinforce prejudice very well.

4. What is probability of your prejudices? Or How many times your judgment proved correct ?

I'm not judgmental at all..I don't make any opinion about a person instantly by judging him/her with my parameters! But what I do is..I observe a lot..and then decide! And the strike rate of my judgement (actually I prefer the word assessment more!) has gone better day by day! Till date I'm almos 98% correct with my assessments..so still there are situations/person about which/whom I'm not so sure and some remained like unsolved puzzled only..where I dint even get whether I was rite or wrong!

4. If you have read Jane Austen's 'pride and prejudice', are you believe that destiny is too generous with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, otherwise with this much pride and prejudice for each other, a love story is possible?

Yea..I do feel that. And I think Elizabeth n Darcy were meant for each other, that why the state of affairs were driven like that which finally cleared the air n got them closer! But one thing..though both of them were under the charm of Pride n Prejudice..still that was not all about their characters..they both were very much honest, up right in nature and had goodness in their hearts. So I believe these were the things that brought them together...where Pride n Prejudice had separated them for time being!

6. Justify Aarati's behavior towards her mother, Savitri at Bapuji's funeral?

I feel that was nothing unusual/abnormal..in a mental state like that..anyone can act like this! So, that was jus an odd moment..where she lost control and did that. And as we know..later she realized what she did wasn't rite n accepted her fault.

If we see from Aarti's pov..jus cant blame her..she was neglected all along and deprived of her rights! And jus bcoz Savitri is her biological mother..she cant be forgiven jus like that! she is very much answerable to aarti..she shud answer/explain first, then only can ask for forgiveness and expect a better term with her "daughter"!!
wow i think EMMA AND PERSUASION of JANE AUSTEN ARE EQUALLY GREAT .

and in a way better than PRIDE AND PREJUDICE .

but the bad thing about PERSUASION is its negativity .

its same as JEAN EYRE in one aspect and that certainly is NEGATIVITY .
1. first of all consider PRIDE as human trait . one of the significant trait that define identity of a persona . so nothing good or bad in it. and either of sin and virtue terms not apply on it .

personal achievements always cause happiness and and there comes the pride and its too common . materialistic approach defines pride as living aura resides in things which define the personality or achievements of a person . those believes in themselves always hold pride in their nature . another common aspect .

high thinking of one's own beliefs is categorized as proudness while ignoring basic roots of those beliefs .

2. well everyone says the same like the books front pages says like everyone on stage says i am thankful to this and that blah blah blah . it seems most fake of all . so family igniting pride is more devotional love and affection than holding pride .

i hold in pride being born as human . bingo it contain both features PRIDE AND PREJUDICE .

3. PRIDE and PREJUDICE are compatible if PRIDE is changed into PROUDNESS .
prejudice judgements are so common in life that we the humans never realize it . people say they don't make judgements but whatever they do is come through real time life analysis by BRAIN and the activities of brain solely concerned with jusdgements . since everyone hold certain level of pride its very easy to see humans maintaining both PRIDE and PREJUDICE in every aspect of life . if talk about MORAL'S then surely both PRIDE and PREJUDICE gonna collide into a fierce battle .

4. everyone likes to be right everytime . humans have basic tendencies of observing others so those who says they do make judgements and don't observe are foolishly lieing . no one can judge humans they all are highly predictable . its all a environment driven process . with every minimal situation change outcomes reactions and thoughts change . people can say i always write like that . but who knows what sorta tactics i apply everywhere . those who can make varied JUDGEMENTS always succeed .

and most basic point is HEART have only one role pump the blood fueled with oxygen into every part of the body and purify the blood . these thoughts feelings and emotions all is a work of mind and logic . this trust and believe all come through logical mind analysis .

5. well like every couple MS. ELIZABETH BENNET and MR. FITZWILLIAM DARCY faced troubles of their own kind and time .

the biggest point both make is that they believe in LOVE AND REASONING . they borh are ready to accept their mistakes and correct them . they wish to become right in every manner they not stop but grow make judgements modify them test them again and again and after have full faith in their reasoning they accept each other whatever nature they have . whatever they as being have. whatever nature brought forward for them .

6. AARTI reaction was predictable . and as i have earlier said AARTI lack hatred . those beings who are consumed by hatred do not act like as AARTI did after whole incident even the reactions scrolling on the incidents are way too much for a sensible being .

in case of VOLDEMORT or BATMAN both not gonna show anything that will result into information revealtion . but after all AARTI belongs to female genre have more emotions than needed .

AARTI is right in AARTI own ways . MRS. SAVITRI is right too . the way AARTI is shown at start defines a strong mentality character and the way AARTI gone through all these changes together shows the lack of HATRED WILL and shows AARTI believes in LOVE and have feelings for the MOTHER .

i am not here to make judgments overall i know that AARTI vital nerve was touched by MRS. SAVITRI and the questions AARTI had in mind all over these years just appeared on surface in very disorder action .

AARTI is gone through a lot and that hatred and objective DROVE AARTI forward but with time and more maturity this hatred itself become an questionable entity . and that's what happened after that .

in all and all AARTI just in emotions spit out the dark hidden drops of blood from oldest wounds .

there AARTI questioned the MOTHER not a entity NAMED MRS. SAVITRI .

overall its was a good emotional scene .

In maha episode, Aarati's bapuji clearifies, to savitri that Aarati is savitri's daughter, whom savitri thought as a dead. After when Bapuji's dead, at his funeral, when savitri tries to console Aarati , she blasted at Savitri saying that woman like her can not be anybody's mother. Aarati's behavior was rude and arrogant and not acceptable. And this made Alka angry and she slapped Aarati.
