I read somewhere that sati from her childhood was attracted towards mahadev just like Parvati nd she too wants to marry him so she chose a spiritual path and completed nanda vrat to get mahadev as her husband. Sati nd Parvati were very much alike. Sati too was a devotee of mahadev.
