Why would the gods test a pavitra patni like sum mentioned here..i mean ive heard stories..why i the wirld those gods want to play with female chasity..now that is realy low..just because their gods they can get away with almost everything...do they have to pay for this sin too??

I dont believe that ahalya was intimate with indr who was in disguise as her husband. I think she recognize him...but then it was too late..and eve she wasnt to blame then why why punish her...

@Nandini: Thanks for liking the story. I liked this version where Gautam was helpless rather than the one who punished his wife.

@Reshma: I think in case of Ahiliya, Indra wanted her because she was a very beautiful woman. At least that is what I have read. In Mahadev, they showed another purpose of Indra. So it was definitely not the test. From what I know, Ahiliya was punished because she mistook Indra for Gautam as Indra had disguised herself as Gautam. They were intimate and when Indra was leaving the cottage, Gautam showed up and seeing him as a duplicate figured out that it was Indra. Then he ended up cursing both Indra and Ahiliya. But what you mentioned could have happened too. There are so many versions. In any case, Ram declared her as pure and absolved her of all blame that the society/husband were putting on her.

As far as testing the loyalty of wife is concerned, I have read two stories regarding this. One is of Arundhati who was tested by Goddesses as they heard praises from their husbands about Arundhati. Another one is of Sukanya - a beautiful woman who was forced to marry Rishi Chavan- an old guy, because she had unknowingly blinded him in a playful game. She was tested by Gods and as a reward , her husband got transformed from an old man into a good looking young guy with whom she could spend the rest of her life. I am not a fan of these stories.

Yup, sometimes Gods do get paid back royally. When the Gods wanted to test the fidelity of Anusuya (they wanted her to serve them food without wearing any clothes) they thought they had cornered her right and proper. Obviously Anusuya will not appear nude in front of any stranger. If she did not cede to their (the God's) request, they threatened to go away w/o receiving bhiksha- which would have been equally damning for her.

They got so carried away by the 'brilliance' of their own plan and were so busy imagining Anusuya's discomfiture, that they did not realize what was happening to them.

Summoning the powers which her lifelong devotion to Rishi Atri had given her, she transformed the three most powerful Gods in the universe into helpless new born babes, who were now rolling on the floor naked.😆

Anusuya could now fulfill the Gods' demand that she serve them food naked. Can new born babies realize who is nude and who is clothed?

If the Gods were imagining they were about to enjoy some voyeuristic pleasure, they were sadly mistaken. Mahasati Anusuya had cleverly turned the tables on them.

Not until Parvati, Laksmi and Saraswati came together and apologized for their husbands' unreasonable demand did Anusuya relent and restored them to their original figures.

The Gods tried to recover some of their lost prestige by claiming that they were merely testing Anusuya's fidelity and that she had passed their 'test'

Anusuya did not reply, knowing very well, anyway she had had the last word and she didn't want to humiliate then further in front of their wives.

i will never understand these manly gods..who love story play with woman..in these cases they are really indicent.and thse are the gods we pray too..i wonder if they still play this nasty pavitrata game..eho want to misyze their power just to misuse their power just to ding dong with females..nobody can prove that this has ended right??.

.ive read in greek myth that zeus was much worser..he even raped abducted married woman..

-if other gods or human would test saraswati..laxmi parvati..like the tridevs did with anusuya would theyexept it too??
-so its gods and mans right to test females??
-why are females allways beeing tested..and man not..
-why in acient time many guys had many wives...i mean those guys had lots of wives and mistress.why is it probited then for females
-why isnt their a karva chauth for man..dont they want their wives to have a long life[ BR]

@Varaali, thanks for the story. I had forgotten that it was Anshuya rather than Arundhati. But I remember reading that three Gods only came after their wives told them to take the test as they were praising Anshuya and Goddesses wanted a proof. So that's why in the end they had to come to Ansuya to restore them to their original forms. It was lesson for three Goddesses rather than Shiv,Brahma and Vishnu.
