Segment on tv..Vrinda Dead - Page 7

Does anyone know who Shankhachuda is? I looked on shiv puran on glorious India website where it mentions Vrinda died before Jalandhar but it also mentions a section where tulsi curses Vishnu because he was disguised as Shankhachuda her husband. So was Vrinda and tulsi different women or an incarnation of the other. I'm confused I always thought Vrinda became tulsi after Vishnu deceived her.

Vrinda does die before Jalandhar in the Shiva Purana and the war continues after that in the final stage (I will check but I think it's the same in the Padma Purana); what they have changed is that he is holding her body and that they have shifted the battle between Vishnu and Jalandhar to this point (in the texts it happens much earlier).

I don't mind the change so long as it works for the story being told on screen. Mythological stories have been undergoing changes since the very beginning. It's nothing new. In fact this tradition of change has played a vital role in keeping these legends and beliefs alive till now. DKDM is merely the latest in a long line of such changes in various media. Just relax and enjoy the story.

BTW, Vrinda dying and Jalandhar grieving over her was foreshadowed in the last few episodes with the rishis telling him about Sati's story and how Mahadev mourned her. It was quite obvious what they are leading up to. I think it's cool that they are drawing parallels between Mahadev and Jalandhar this way.



PS I wonder how you guys would have reacted if they had been really faithful to the texts and shown Shiva having extreme difficulty in defeating Jalandhar and even being deluded by his (Jalandhar's) maya. Even Vishnu couldn't defeat him (in the Padma he is actually defeated and taken by Jalandhar). Be glad that they changed things. 😆
