I haven't seen this movie. But another one- Tiruvilayadal Puranam- with Shivaji in the lead role- is an awesome movie.

Tiruvilayadal - means sacred leela.

Actually according to ancient Tamil Literature, Shiva and Parvati have enacted 64 such sacred leelas on Earth- all in and around Madurai.

Only complain I have to the story is thatyou go fast, write more about mernakshi what she did etc. I think you have a splendid imagination you have free rein so use it. (I dont mean anything negativ, just to prolong your story).

Thank you for your comment Mallikarjuna.

The story of Meenakshi - as known to us- is actually very brief.

I have taken the basic outline and added some, - actually lots -of masala (my imagination at work)

There's still more to come.

It will be too lengthy to narrate all the 64 leelas. I will just recount one or two.

Once, there was a musician in the court of the Pandian king. He was very talented and was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Another arrogant musician by the name of Hemantha Bhagavathar, once challenged the court musician, to a musical challenge- the stakes being that if he, Hemantha Bhavathae won, the entire kingdom should be handed over to him.

Since it was a matter of prestige, the Pandiyan King was forced to accept the challenge. But the court musician, who was a SHiva bhakta was restless with worry, in case he lost, and because of him the Pandian king would lose his kingdom. KNowing no other way out, he prayed to Lord SHiva to help him out of this crisis.

Meanwhile, it is night and the Bhagavthar is fast asleep, confident of his victory the next day and dreams of becoming the king. But the Bhagavathar's sleep is disturbed by someone singing across the road. The Bhagavtar is astounded by the quality of music.

The Bhagavtar sends his shishya to find out who the great singer was

The sishya comes back saying that the singer is just an ordinary low caste wood cutter who was singing while swatting mosquitoes. The singing resumes, and the Bhagavtar listens spellbound He is more surprised when the singer pauses for a moment ( to take a breath) and the whole world comes to a standstill.

The Bhagavathar rushes outside to find out who the wood cutter's guru was, from whom did the wood cutter learn music.

The wood cutter replies offhandedly that he did not learn music formally, but just happened to listen to the court musician (the one whom the Bhagavthar was to compete with, the next day) singing and just picked it up.

The Bhagavtar thinks, if an ordinary wood cutter can sing so well, then how excellent would the court musician's music must be.

Then and there the Bhagavthar asks his shishyas to pack up and leaves the place.

THE CHALLENGE

"So where do I have to go on a conquest?" asked Meenakshi

"I will tell you that tomorrow, in the royal court, in front of everybody" replied the old man.

"Fair enough" replied Meenakshi, "Anyway I will have to consult my military commanders"

By the next day, the whole town was abuzz with the news of the old man's audacious proposal and his challenge. The royal court was packed with all the ministers, officials and chiefs. Even the seating area reserved for the common people was overflowing with people. Every one wanted to know how their queen was going to react to the challenge.

Meenakshi was seated on the throne, grand and majestic, her head held high, looking like a veritable goddess. The guards announced the old man's presence.

Spoke the queen in a measured voice, "We had entered into a deal yesterday. If I succeed in the task set by you, I will not be required to honour my mother's word to you. You wanted me to return victorious from a conquest. Speak- where do you want me to go on a conquest?" The queen's voice was calm and confident.

"Any place that is far and difficult to reach" answered the old man.

"Perhaps, to the north of Madurai? Where Kaveri meets the ocean?

"Bah'that's next door to you. What is remotely difficult in defeating the Chola ruler? Is that all you can aim, O Queen?"

The courtiers were incensed. Was he doubting their queen's martial abilities?

Meenakshi was unruffled though. "Then we shall go further north. Crossing the Dandaka forests, we shall conquer the Andhraka country through which the great Godhavari and Krishnaveni rivers flow." She raised her fist in the air.

All the courtiers shouted their approval.

Raising his hand, the old man called for silence. "Is that all, O Queen? Are the Andhrakas the most formidable enemy you can meet in battle? Can't you go higher still?

"Higher?" wondered Meenakshi. North of Andhraka, if they followed the sea coast, lay the Utkala and the Kalinga kingdoms, and on the way they would have to encounter savage man eating tribes. If they veered westwards, they would have to cross the Vindhya mountains- a territory they had never been to before. Could she risk it?

"Yes", replied Meenakshi. "We shall march across the Vindhya mountains. Though that region is unknown to us, we shall conquer it and plant the matsya dhwaja there"
