Exactly what I thought. Which is why at the start of the Asokasundari track, I wondered whether the 2 Nahushas were even the same in the first place. As was mentioned then by many, it's doubtful that Mahadev & Parvati, w/ full knowledge of the future, would be so enthusiastic to marry off their daughter to someone who'd stalk someone else's wife, and then spend almost 2 yugas as a serpent. No parents would want that for their daughter, least of all Mahadev-Parvati. Besides, anybody who was the son in law of Mahadev would be so proud of that that he'd more likely than not be monogamous.
Which is why I tend to think that there are really 2 Nahusha's at play here - Asokasundari's Nahusha, and Sachi's Nahusha 😈
@ bold: I didn't get your point. And I think Nahush was responsible for rains. After all, one of the functions of Indra is rain-making😆 (Scientists would dissaprove)
And if I am correct, Indra and Devaraj mean the same thing: Indra is also a title. Our present Indra's real name is Purandara. This point is according to Bhagavatam, where Suka lists the different Indras of Manvantaras.
In that case, who was the Indra who violated Ahalya, and got defeated by Meghnad as a consequence (as per Valmiki Ramayan)? Who was the Indra who was trounced by Tarakasura, and did he get back his throne, or did another Indra succeed Taki? Who was the Indra who Mahadev got irate at, due to which Jalandhar was born? Who was the Indra who murdered Virochan and was ousted by Bali? Who was the Indra who killed Trishiras & Vritra? Was he the same as the one who's wife was stalked by Nahusha? Oh, and do all the Indra wives automatically become Sachis?
Reason I ask all this is that Aditi was concerned about Indra when Bali ousted him, and got Vishnu to take on his Vamana avatar. But if Indra was a genre of rulers of the devas, then Aditi wouldn't have bothered. Or does she give birth to each Indra in each yuga?
Exit question, which I originally asked in the Mytho masti d&d thread : if Aditi's eldest son was Surya, and the norms usually decreed that the eldest son would be the ruler, how did Indra end up as the ruler of the devas?
