Wearing a Tiger skin today can be the latest fashion statement, if permitted by animal welfare associations. There is nothing to be ashamed of, we can have nice designer outfits made of it. The only thing is I wouldn't like to kill any Tiger for that. So I would settle for the fabric having the Tiger skin print.

^^^ Well, tigers do die natural deaths, and while one may not want to eat animals that have grown old and die of natural causes, it's a different story altogether when it comes to wearing them. So take an old tiger that died of old age, and then have its skin cut, and then tailored to give pants, T-shirts/sweat shirts, socks and whatever.

Only, that it would look weird on men. Women are different - they can wear anything 😆

In the ACK Elephanta, I read a different story of why Shiva wears a tiger skin. A bunch of rishis, vainglorious about their greatness due to the devotion of their wives, become conceited, and so Mahadev & Narayan decide to teach them a lesson. Mahadev takes the roop of a handsome youth, while Vishnu takes his Mohini roop. The wives are attracted to Shiva, while the rishis are attracted to Mohini. After a while the Rishis realize what's happening and try to curse the youth, but since it's Shiva, nothing happens.

Then they invoke a tiger, and the youth kills it, skins it and wears its skin. They then invoke a snake, which the youth wraps around his neck like an ornament. Then the youth returns to Shiva's original form and the rishis repent.

Then which animal does he kill in the Daruka forest? This story is very similar, in fact identical to the story of the Daruka vana.

And when does he wear the elephant skin?

But more often than not, Shiva is digambar

I have a question. Recently, I was reading one of the online Shiva Puranas - the one that had the complete, not abridged, Shiva Puranas, and one thing surprised me. It describes the story of Durvasa and Ambarisha, and mentions that Durvasa was a form/avatar of Shiva in that.

Anybody else read anything like it? I find it hard to digest, since Durvasa was among the most self centered rishis that ever lived. How true is that?

On a different note, is there a list of all the ansh avatars of Mahadev? Not the ones like Veerbhadra or Mahakal, but rather, the ones where a part of him manifested itself differently - like Jalandhar, Hanuman, et al

In what context is it mentioned? What are the exact words?

There is an unabridged version online?!!!😲
GIMME THE LINK!

Ok, back to point. Yep, Duravasa was an avatara of Lord SHiva (his anger, I guess)...
And the Durvasa Ambarisha story is different in Shiva Purana, where Ambarisha asks Durvasa forgiveness... Now isn't that a story worthy of DKDM? Though they cannot show, as Ambarisha was Rama's ancestor...
I don't think there is any list...
If you can give me the link, I can scour through it for you!

An interesting note:😊

According to Chapter 44 of the Brahmananda Purana, Brahma and Shiva once got into a heated quarrel. So violent was Shiva's rage as a result of this quarrel, that the Devas fled from his presence in fear. His consort, Parvati, complained that Shiva was now impossible to live with. Realising the disharmony his anger had caused, he decided to deposit this anger into Anasuya, the wife of sage Atri. From this portion of Shiva deposited into Anasuya, a child was born, who was named Durvasa (literally, one who is difficult to live with). Because he was born of Shiva's anger, he had an irascible nature.

The Bhagavata Purana gives a somewhat different account of Durvasa's birth. In this version, Atri performed severe penance to propitiate the Supreme Being in order to obtain a son by Anasuya who would be just like Him. Pleased with him, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva (being but different manifestations of the Supreme) blessed the sage that portions of themselves would be born as his sons. In due course, Anasuya bore Soma (Brahma's incarnation), Dattatreya (Vishnu's), and Durvasa (Shiva's).😃😃

I have a doubt which is not really about mahadev. Lord brahma has children and mahadev has children, but I have never heard of lord Vishnu having children. Do Narayan and laxmi have children?
