Nyaya Sutras of Rishi Gautama

The Nyaya Shastra of Goutama Rishi (anyone here familiar with it / read it?) is primarily a treatise on Logic - not justice. The word 'nyaya' in hindi means justice, but in Sanskrit (especially in the context of the text we are referring to) the word means a system/ methodology of logic. It became a corollary that by using such a system of logic, justice could be meted out.

But the point I am emphasizing here is that the original intention of Gautama while compiling the Nyaya Sutra was not with the idea of formulating a CIvil Procedure Code or an vedic version of Indian Penal Act.

Nyaya Sutra is a system of philosophy which tries to establish the presence of God, the relationship b/w aatma and God, and the aatma and the world, through a method of systematic logic by menas of garnering information. It ranks alongside Yoga and Vendanta one of the six systems of Philosophy.
