I knew that Saraswati and Lakhsmi were the consorts of Braahma and Vishnu respectively, but in the Durga Puja mandap, I noticed they are saying they are the daughters of Durga. Ganesh and Karthikey are also there along with Mahishaur and the lion. I was not interested in mythology last year and its only DKDM I was so interested in these things, can you tell me what the myth is?

I've been asking this question as well. It is a Bong only tradition, so I am wondering about the original source of this one. In the mainstream scriptures, Saraswati is a creation of Brahma, while Lakshmi is a daughter of Varuna. This deal of them being daughters of Ma Durga, and therefore siblings to Ganesh & Kartikeya is only there in Bong Durga Puja pandals - I've not seen it anywhere else.

My own guess - it's probably rooted in medieval Bong literature, and doesn't really have any scriptural underpinnings.

It's a bong only tradition I guess but the origin could be DS which says that Ma shanti created the three devis laxmi and uma. Hence some may interpret Lakshmi and sarasvati as durga,s daughters. This is just a guess
