As I have occasionally said (on different forums), I don't mind creative liberties, as long as they don't contradict the original story. E.g. in this serial, when they showed private moments b/w Shiva & Sati after their marriage, even though it's not a part of the story, I didn't mind them showing that. It's something that could conceivably have been glossed over by the original authors as being trivial, but inserted by the CVs for lending a few touching scenes here & there.

However, when major events - be it Daksha's yagna earlier, or the incineration of Kama last night - are distorted, it creates a very unpleasant effect. The thing to realize about these mytho serials is that unlike other serials, where the story can be twisted for the sake of TRPs, there is a mixed viewership here. While there may be those who want to see the chemistry b/w Mohit and Mouni/Sonarika, even in the event that that wasn't there, if the story being shown was true to the scriptures, at least the religious minded would watch it, even if Mohit/Mouni/Sonarika fans might switch channels. But when that story itself gets distorted, the base of the viewership - the mytho viewers - leave in droves, and even among the fans of the actors, if what's shown doesn't seem palatable, they too start leaving in droves.

When there was the uproar here about whether Mouni or Sonarika should play Parvati, it was rightly pointed out to Mouni fans that Sati & Parvati were 2 completely different people, and so the same actress playing both of them would be inappropriate. The PH did the right thing in biting the bullet and replacing Mouni. (Incidentally, if she's still available, she could be used to portray Ma Durga later, but point remains - she can't be the same person playing Parvati) But they then beg the question as to why did they need to rush her introduction?

In fact, many have observed that this serial would have been better had it really been about Mahadev himself, and not just his love life. All the great things that Mahadev did have only been shown in flashback mode (should we thank the gods for small mercies?) But really, the serial could have shown in detail the original creation of the universe - the creations of Vishnu & Brahma. Then they could have gone into the origin of Daksha, and the various stories associated w/ Shiva b4 his marriage to Sati.

Demons like Vritra - it's arguable whether they even belonged in this serial. Tarakasura did his tapas in the interim b/w Sati's death & Parvati's birth, and thatis' why he asked that he'd be killed by Shiva's son - he was pretty confident that Mahadev would never marry. Honestly, I don't even like it when the demons are vilified - they too played a very exact role in the story, and the crimes they did were worthy of the punishments they received, and don't need to be blown out of proportion to justify the punishments to the average viewer.

But please, can the serial give first importance to what's in the Puranas, and then introduce their romantic touches to the couples?

hi to all
why do i watch devon ke dev ! i love shiva ! hope parvati mata wonot read this. heard that she cursed the ladies who looked at shiva with other than devotional eyes. from childhood i read somany stories of shiva saw so many paintings of him that i bow my head for his personality. his strength his passion his anger his destrutive powers everything and above all i love his love for his wife his ardhangini. who will not love a man who can kill for his wife. though he possess so much power , he is shown to be peaceful warm and considerate of all gods---- bolenath.
but unforfunetly i never ever encountered any actor who could justify the power the passion and the indefference shiva possessed. only read in stories. saw in paintings. never could indentify him with any of the actors either in movies or in tv. till now never watched any tv actor. they were downright below the standard. but but our mohit he is the perfect shiva in any way to be seen , felt and enjoy. it is either his long face with jathas or his personality or his voice or his wonderful action. god he is shiva in everyway.
iam really very very glad that now i can see a shiva on screen who personofy all my imaginations of a god whose powers are unlimited and undestructable.
we have to appreciate the makeup artists of the show for such wonderful getup.
and ofcourse the sets, the kailash parvath the palaces beautiful scenes...god all my dreams of watching the first and the most passionte love story of the universe came to be true.
though i felt mouni was looking small infront of shiva and not sufficient to potray adishakti still she did extremly well in acting part. her dance moves and passionate eyes for shiva and longing for him did the magic. that was beautiful .
ofcourse our great daksh with his wife and daughters ,except vijaya , who looked more like his wife(sorry for that) all are beautiful and wonderful.
the day i saw the first promo , i knew i had to see this show.
but as many are saying they are taking too many liberties with the story . though we donot mind taking some liberties like sati writing on lotus flowers such a beautiful scene, in a way her helping to lift the curse on shiva---though never heard of it that was ok.
but parvati calling khyati and revati didi didnot godown well withme. as per the story she hated that life she herself destroyed the body to cut all the ties . remember her saying mai kisiki putri nahi , nahi kisike behan. where did all that go? gosh last days rati 's curse on parvati ,, heights of liberty.
but still i loved the way shiva got up to stand . first removing his mudra , putting one leg down, then the other with so much power within, that was beautiful.
such small small things make up for the character and the show is full with them.
i really hope the makers donot tamper the characters like making parvati cry baby and ganga ever standing with a long face and mena always sounding like a nagging mother for heaven sake they all are strong characters and mythological figures for us
sorry for the long post

Why do i watch dis show? Hmmm when i first watched the promo i got attracted towards dis show.but unfortunately wasn't able to watch it due to exams.i watched it from mahadev-sati's wedding and then watched all begining episodes on youtube withing seven days. I love watching mytho shows. i remember when i was a child i use to watch om namah shivay, jai hanuman, ramayan, mahabharat, vishnu puran, jai ganesha. I was unaware of shiv-sati story so dis was the main reason to watch dis show. The other main reason are the actors of dis show.starting frm mahadev-sati-parvati or it may be vishnu-lakshmi, bhramadev-saraswati, nandi and daksh family and sapt rishis, rishi Dadichi rishi markandey or even asurs every actor portrying Dis roles had made the characters alive. 3rd main reason is its backgrownd music.i even kept d music as my ringtone. The costumes are marvellous and the visual effects are mindblowing. While watching dis show and frm IF Discussions i had gained a lot of knowledge about our mytho and culture.and yes i admit that i also like dis show for the lovestory of shiv-shakti.and now m verymuch addicted to this show dat i even watch the repeat telecast.

and regarding the "creative licence" yes they have manupulated many things frm the original stories bt m ok wid it as i dont keep any such expections frm them...i watch the show as an entertainment purpose 😆...and abt gaining knowledge i think i hav earned immense knowledge form IF...(thanks to minaxi, krishna, shreya, you n others)

Why I watch it? Well first of all I love Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. But their are many other mythos showing them, I dont watch all of them. This show has something different

This show is unique. It has the perfect combination of acting , direction, story etc

Mohit Raina has done wonders with this role. I would rank him along with Nithish Bharadwaj and Arun Gowil. At first he had not appealed to me much, the more I saw him, the more he captivated me as Shiva. Shiva has always been a mystic character ti me. My aloof and detached Lord who listens to me when I cry and bows away all my troubles. In my ordinary day to day life I have felt Shiva's assistance many times in matters big and small. And now when I close my eyes and think of Shiva its Mohit I see😆. He has done the role to perfection

But this show is unique in in oher ways to. Its well directed. They have not made a mockery of our mythology. They have told and explained things which other mythos never did.for example the shiva suktam. I know they have added many fictional elements. But they have done it in a remarkable way. They have intertwined fiction and reality in such a way that it has not reduced but increases the sweetness of the real scriptures

The art of story telling is very good here and that is why I watch this show

I am reminded of a small couplet on Shiva

Shiv ke haath hai jeevandor,
chal re manaba shiv ki aur
bam bam bam bam, har har bol
chal re manaba shiv ki aur

Thank you folks for responding with your thoughtful comments!

I would say there is broad consensus amongst us that if there is a well-known story-line then why invent things? It was okay in the case of Sati, because there was room for invention/creativity.

I did say that I watch to see familiar stories enacted in a modern medium.

But I also accept variations and innovations. So why am I unhappy with this? I should be able to accept this an a modern take on the story right? However simplistic or populist I may feel it is getting, it is yet another variation. Maybe they didn't intend to tell the story as we know it (as I expected it to be). In that case, I can have no quarrel, can I? can we?

I think my friend Tanni put it best when she said,

"Atha TriangleFilmsPuran"...😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
