I want to play devil's advocate here and talk about our least favourite character Mena. I know we all hate the actress, but think of the role itself -

Here's a woman/queen who's given birth to scores of kids and they've all become part of nature - mountains, rivers etc. Her last daughter went to Swargalok in a fit of pique when Shiva roundly rejected her.

So all she wants now is for her laadli beti to marry a nice princeling in the neighbourhood and lead a NORMAL life: rule over a kingdom with hubby dear, have loads of kids etc etc.

Instead, off goes said daughter traipsing in caves and mountains looking for an ascetic widower, and hoping to marry him! As far as the ascetic's behavior, attire, home and antecedents, the less said the better (although I'm sure Mena will have a lot to say about these in later episodes!)

I mean, which mom would say yes...right?

No offence meant, just my 2 paise of opinion šŸ˜‰

I don't agree either, but I think that is what Mena (with her limited worldview) would think - and she's being perfectly reasonable as far as she is concerned. She doesn't have the ego and self-importance that Daksha had, she just wants things to be "normal" in her universe, and normal means x, y, z - the preset path for Parvathi.

Of course, she doesn't realise that someone else has pre-set a path for Parvathi much before...šŸ˜†

Its not about world view and its not about concern with children

its all comes down to three points

1) I know it all attitude

2) expecting children to conform with their views.

3) My children My wish attitude

even then she has no right whatsoever to dictate terms

as per manusmriti once children turn 16 you should stop being a guardian and start being a friend

after 16 children have every right to choose their own way of life and nobody has any right o question that

Krishnaji,

Don't think Mena has read Manusmriti - at least the one we're seeing in DKDM! She's typecast as a typical loud, overbearing, know-it-all mom, the kind you want to run miles away from!

that is the point naa, that is the reason i want to say that there cannot be any kind of explanation or justification for mena's behaviour. just because so many people do it, it doesn't become right.

This is as per manusmriti or as per Chanakya...agelimit of 16 was set by Chanakya I think...

I dont think it is wrong on part of a mother to expect something from children...All the 3 points you had mentioned holds true for Daksh...but for Mena I think its jus pure 'Motherly Love'...once Parvathi talks with her and shows her that her 'views' are wrong...I m sure Mena will change for good

Motherly love will only concern well being of the children and understanding of children

rather than shivatva and vaishnavatva nonsense.

although there is prevalent view in Indian society that children cannot think for themselves , that is not correct

this is the single most reason we have some kind robotic generation obsessed with Jobs especially in IT industry.

free society like USA have produced so many innovations where as parent "dictated" society like india can only produce some dumbos who can only work in IT

i am just talking about the India in general but there are always exceptions
