In the soft green grass, his footsteps moved hastily in the cemetery towards a gravestone that lied in the farthest corner of the graveyard. I don't want to be late. He thought to himself looking at his watch.

In the gravestone the following words were engraved,

In loving memory,

Avantika Singh

( 1967 -2003)

A loving mom

He gently put the bouquet of red roses in the gravestone and knelt down to meet his mother. He remained in the graveyard for an hour talking to his mother, telling him about his life. An hours later, he left for the school .

Manyata looked at her cousin and sighed. How long is this girl taking to get ready?

"Unnati, if you have forgotten let me remind you we need to reach the school today."

"Really, I didn't know that." she pouted.

"Unnati and Manyata, how long are you going to take?" Komal asked from the hallway.

" Mom we'll be there in a minute." Unnati said

"Let me help you, Unnati." Manyata offered.

"It's OK. I'm almost ready." she said. Almost...she had been repeating the same thing from the past half an hour.

Unnati was not that type who used to stand infront of the mirror and make up for hours. Atleast she wasn't last summer when she visited Manyata and Vijay.

She waited impatiently for Unnati to finish and instead stared at her room. Technically, it was their room, Unnati's and hers.

She thought about random stuffs to divert her attention from Unnati and help her .

How long is she going to take. God save me. Wait a minute, something's not in the picture. Why would Unnati even over makeup to go to a college. It's not a party or something right.

There are three reasons that girls make-up:

Reason 1: To make their girlfriends jealous.

Reason2: Because of their insecurity

Reason 3:To look good infront of their loved ones.

Reason 1 and 2 rejected. Reason 3...umm...nah. She's not that kind of a girl who would fall for a boy. She kept on staring at the floor like it was something interesting. And that's when she felt: But why not? She is a girl.

"Manyata, Manyata, we need to reach the school today." Unnati said shaking Manyata, breaking her eye lock with her new found interest, the floor.

"Unnati, who's the guy?" Manyata blurted out.

Unnati was a bit taken back not expecting the question. "What guy?"

"Don't act. The guy for whom you have been grooming yourself from the past half an hour."

"I don't know what you are talking about." She tried to deceit Manyata but failed miserably on her attempt. How could she Manyata and she were cousin cum best friend since they were born.

"I'm waiting. Who's the one?"

Unnatii surrendered herself to Manyata. "I give up. He's name is Saleen Singh. And today's our first anniversary. So I wanted this day to be a special one."

"Are you serious? And does uncle and aunty know about this?"

"Don't be silly. No, they don't. We'll tell them when the right time comes and yeah we are serious. Till then I want a favor from you, please don't open this topic infront of Mom and Dad."

"I'll think about it when I meet the guy."

"You'll like him. Now let's go, act normal. You don't know who Saleen is, understand."

Manyata nodded and they went to the downstairs where Brijraj, Komal and breakfast was waiting them.

"Ladies be home early. I have a meeting so I will not be able to pick you up. You can manage right?"

"Dad, we are grown up now. Don't worry about us."

"That's my big girl." Brijraj grinned.

Manyata and Unnati got off the black sedan while Brijraj drove away.

The feeling that you get when you enter playgroup, the jitters you feel to face the unknown ones, well Manyata was feeling the same now.

Don't act like a child. There's nothing to be nervous of. God, I miss Vijay Bhai, wish he would be here.

"So who is this boy you were talking about?"

"You'll find it in a minute." Unnati said.
