Chapter 26

The whole court was silent; they looked eagerly as the video began to play.

It was dark and someone was walking fast. It was as if he was being followed. The person then broke to a run but the unknown man following him caught him and slammed a knife in his chest. The person then fell on the ground struggled for a few minutes and died

Manyta had closed her eyes when the video was being played, she did not want to see Rajat's death again, and she held her ears tight not to hear Rajat scream. When she was sure the video ended she opened her eyes,

The whole court was watching Manyta, she looked astonished." Why was everyone staring at her" she thought. The judge cleared his throat and asked

"ms Manyta could you please explain what you meant by the video?"

M: sir, this video was the evidence of Uday killing Rajat. Wh.. why?

J: is this some comedy circus ms Manyta? Taking a part of an English action movie and producing it as a evidence is not something funny. You could be held for contempt of the court

M: but sir, maybe it was a mistake, please check the other evidences, the bank details and others in the pen drive.

The judge looked at her for a moment and then decided to check the other contents

The second video which manyta claimed to be the conversation between uday and her mom too proved to be fake. It was some video from a bollywood cinema. The people in the court started murmuring amongst themselves

"what is this?"

"Is anything true"

" is this some sort of drama?"

"so is uday being framed?'

Came comments from all sides. The judge had to call for order for more than 5 minutes before some sort of order could be brought

Manyta had lost her voice, she felt totally lost, what happened to the videos?

M: sir, i… i… I think the videos have being changed by someone..

J: whom manyta? You have brought evidence that is totally worthless

M: sir what about the photos?

J: what photos? This penndrive have many photos of Katrina kaif and shah rukh kahan, now does that count as an evidence? Are you trying to act smart ms Manyta?

M: sir, I think I brought the wrong pen drive. Please allow me to take the correct one.

J: it's already 12 30 pm. the court is adjourned for lunch. This trial will be continued at 2 pm. ms Manyta you better have your evidence ready by then and remember this is a court and not any drama club, playing the fool over here will not be tolerated

M: yes sir.

Jaggat came to meet manyta after the court was adjourned

J: what is the meaning of all that manyta?

M: jaggt, please understand, I am sure I had all evidences in the pendrive, I kept the pendrive safe and yet someone managed to corrupt it. there is only one person who would do it- uday. He must have changed the contents in the pendrive.

J: manyta will you please stop accusing uday without any proof. You are making yourself a mocking stuff in front of people.

M: jaggat, you know me. Why should I do so. Believe me, just once. Uday may be able to change the evidence in the pendrive but he can't change all evidences in his home, can he? jaggat just come with me to uday's home and I will show the proofs of his crime, then you would believe me na.

J:manyta…(he looks at her pleading eyes and then agrees.)ok, ok, but manyta I hope this is not a joke.

M: no jaggat, I promise you.

Both jaggat and manyta leave the court room and head towards uday's residence in the city (it was not the place where manyta spend 10 days kidnapped by uday ie mr shark. They will head to that place later)

The house was empty except for a watch man, manyta and jaggat entered the house,, manyta remembered

FLASHBACK

It was the day she had known from rajat that mrshark was none other than uday, in her anger she went to encounter him alone, she first went to his office but he was not there

Then she went to his house, he was not there too, the servant informed her that he would come soon and took her to his study

There was a shelf full of books, she checked the author's names and she found that he had good taste

The was a set of encyclopedia over there, it was kept in proper order but M came after N

So she took that book out, surprisingly the shelf rotated revealing a door, curiosity got better than her and she opened the door , it led to an underground stairway and opened into a room full of modern devices- tracking devices, voice analysis , gprs tv screens, multiple computers, call tracking devices and many other she could not name

Flashback ends

There was enough evidence in that room for her to prove uday was guilty. Manyta told jaggat

M: in his study there is a shelf, and on that shelf there is a set of encyclopedia, it's kept in proper order but M came after N, if you take that book out the shelf would rotate and reveal a secret passageway. In that room you will find what we need.

J: I hope that you are right, jagat said unconvinced.

M: jaggat, come with me.

She took his hand and went to uday's study. The shelf was there where she had told.

M: see jaggat the shelf.

Jagat just nodded. He was not at all convinced by manyta's talk, he was beginning to doubt her sanity now

Manyta opened the shelf and showed him the set of encyclopedia

M: see jagat, just as I said, M is present after N

She takes the book out and waits for the shelf to rotate. Nothing happened. She again took another book out, still nothing. She began to take all books out one by one, throwing then down in anger still nothing happened. Jaggat got irritated

J: enough manyta, what are you thinking? Can't you see that shelf is attached to the wall, it won't even move lest rotate, what is all this manyta?

M: I swear jaggat, there was a secret passageway behind that shelf, and there were a lot of things like tracking devices, voice analysis , gprs tv screens, multiple computers, call tracking device and many more

J: and now what happened? Did it vaporize into thin air? Be reasonable. Are you in your senses manyta?

M: jaggat, uday must have changed it, jaggat please give me one more chance, please. Take me to uday's home in the outskirts of the city na, over there you can see the room where I was held hostage. At least believe me. Just give me one more chance.

J:ok. But …..

M: please..manyta pleaded

Jagat made a face, but agreed, they drove to uday's second home in outskirts in silence, manyta was getting desperate, uday had managed to hide all source of evidence well. The pendrive was changed, the rotating shelf was fixed, again what? She thought. And a deep sense of fear enveloped her. Was she going to fail? Will she fail her duty as a yuvarani?

Uday's second home was just like manyta remembered. The house gave a feeling of belonging. She remembered her days here and a blush crept on her face. But then another feeling crept back to her.

The door was opened by uday's servant. Manyata was seeing her for the first time. Jaggat told they were from the police department and had come to search the house. Manyta took him to the basement, she searched for the room where she spent her first few days chained by uday, but failed to do so. Jaggat grew increasingly impatient

J: manyta, enough of your jokes, what's wrong with you

M: jaggat all this is framed jaggat, please give me one last chance

Manyta next went to the room where she had found uday's laptop and had collected the evidences. Jaggat followed her; he did not hide his annoyance.

He began to say,

J:manyta

M: jaggat please… she pleaded

Manyta entered the room, uday's laptop was still there, she switched on the laptop and began to search for the files she had seen, such a file never existed in that laptop, and she grew more worried. She opened the shelf using the password she had seen uday using. The shelf opened with a clang sound.

M: see jagat, I told you I know his password, how else would I know if I was not here?

Jaggat did not bother to answer her. "Insane" was the only word he could think.

She began to look through all files in his shelf; even jaggat joined her to humor her

In all the files he went through, were related to uday's various businesses, there was nothing suspicious about it. there weren't any master plans for assassinations or kidnappings or false bank accounts or anything else that manyta had claimed. He looked at manyta in shear annoyance, so this whole case was fabricated by manyta, he thought, but why?

Manyta was becoming hysterical, uday had not even kept a single evidence unattended, but how did he know she would back stab him? Did she do the wrong thing? Uday had defeated her. She was defeated by Mr Shark.

She broke down, she fell down to the floor and curled herself into a ball, she cried her heart out, jaggat could not take any more drama and he left her alone.

The place was silent for 10 minutes; jaggat came and told manyta that they were getting late for court, his voice was harsh and did not have any sign of pity. His eyes were cold. Manyta walked lifelessly towards the jeep. The rest of the journey was silent

Yes she was defeated….. She had failed her duty. She hated uday for cheating her. She HATED HIM.

Chapter 26.1

The noise in the court was unbearable. The things that happened in the court were totally unexplainable. Manyta had failed to produce evidence in the court and the judge had warned her about the consequences of her doing. Now it was the turn of jaggat to give evidence in the court.

Jaggat came and took the oath. The judge asked him about his opinion about this case

Jaggat: your honour, I feel that this case against uday is totally false and a fabricated one. If iam correct, it was the day when manyta's friend mr rohan was killed, that manyta first told me that her life was in danger and on Mr. Shark was planning to assassin her and her bodyguard, mr rajat was investigating the identity of this so called mr shark. At that time, I was worried for her safety. The next day she was reported missing, It was uday who was with me all the time to find manyta. He would come early in the morning and leave late night. In his eyes I did see a love for manyta, he was genuinely worried. It was only later that we learned that manyta was supposedly "killed" in a car accident. I remember uday was shattered by that news. 2 days later we all were invited for manyta's final rites in her palace and it was that day we came to know that manyta was alive. she pointed to me that udayveer was mr shark, she even said she had enough evidence to support her claim and she would submit all evidences in the court.

Today we saw what sort of evidence she had, after the court was adjourned, she pleaded me to accompany her to uday's home where all evidences were present, we visited both the houses and there was no such proof. So I feel this case was purely a fabricated case, iam not sure about what reasons manyta has, but I must say the guity must be punished.

Saying this he looked at manyta

Judge: considering all evidences, we have seen today, it is clear like daylight that mr udayveer is innocent. This case is clearly a fabricated one. I hereby announce that mr udayveer is free of all charges he was accused of. I would however like to add one thing. Ms manyta what you have done is a huge crime, framing an innocent person is a huge crime, I myself will file a case against you...

Before he could complete, someone interrupted

"Your honour"

Everyone was shocked, who was the person bold enough to interrupt when the judge was speaking. They looked at the direction where the voice came from, it was uday, now what was going on?

Judge: yes mr udayveer?

U: sir, I would like to say something before you file a case against anyone.

J: ok, Mr. udayveer

U: sir, since yesterday I was in police custody, not knowing what my fault was. The night at the jail was the most horrible thing that happened to me. Today even in the court I was silent as I knew I was innocent. People called me Mr. Shark, the deadly assassin. I too heard about Mr. Shark when Manyta told me herself. But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be accused of killing people. When I knew Manyta was killed in the car accident I was heartbroken, I loved her so much. I was genuinely happy when I discovered she was alive. But there are a lot of things that remain unexplained. Where was Manyta all these days? Why then did she fake her own death? Who actually is Mr Shark? Many unanswered questions

For the first time since uday came to the court he cried, his voice broke, tears fell down from his eyes.

U: Even if there is any genuine reason why she did this, why spoil my life? Have I done such a huge crime? Will anyone again talk to me? For them I would be a criminal, a serial killer? What about my hard earned reputation? What about My life?

Sir, however I would like if you did not press charges against Manyta, I feel she is not in her correct mental state. I forgive her for all the hardships I had to undergo because of Manyta. Even if I want to press charges, would I get my lost reputation, would I ever forget the night in jail I had to spend? Why sending another human to jail? Please allow Manyta to walk free. Thank you for allowing me to speak. And I am sorry for interrupting you.

J: it's ok Mr. Udayveer. What happened in the last few days cannot be undone. .. the court continued its proceedings

After nearly 3 hours, trial came to an end. Uday was set free. Manyta was also set free, but she was sternly warned by the court, that repetition of such an act will result in a jail term. She was also given 200hrs of community service. The court also raised serious doubts about her mental state. The tide turned suddenly to uday's favour, everyone was telling about how he was falsely accused, he suddenly became a martyr for the cheap politics played by the royals.

The media was casting manyta, as a witch who wanted to destroy uday's life for some selfish reason of hers. They picturised her to be delusional People were really upset because they had falsely accused udayveer. His tears had brought tears in their eyes too. They started to shout slogans against manyta, manyta came out of the court totally shattered, hearing the crowd shouting slogans against her, and she hid her face in shame. She just wanted to hide somewhere away from all these mess.

Udayveer came out of the court as a happy man. He was free. If manyta thought she was smart then uday was smarter. Was he a fool to keep all evidences in his home unattended? All the evidences which he had shown her earlier was just to mislead her. The moment she told him, she wanted revenge against her mother he knew he too would be trapped for his deeds. If a girl was willing to punish her mother who gave birth to her, would she ever spare her "lover"? uday may have fallen in love with her, but that does not mean he was blind or stupid. He purposely gave her the chance to view the evidences and proofs against him. He had set a camera in his room and had seen what manyta had done. Even the videos in his laptop were kept by him for manyta to view. After he was sure she had seen all these things, he destroyed them without leaving a trace. That is why manyta could not even produce a single piece of evidence against him.

He changed the contents in the pen drive when she was sleeping, he did not do it when they were at his home, but waited for the day they went to devgarh, so she would not suspect any foul play. He was 100 percent sure that manyta would betray him. So he helped her dig his grave and finally when the grave was ready, he pushed her into it. he was free. Mr shark was free. Manyta got the biggest punishment, it was worse than death. She was humiliated and the court even doubted that she was mad. And it gave him a sense of happiness. He went out of the court and saw manyta standing there alone and defeated. He moved toward her.

U: manyta… he called her

Manyta was shocked to hear udayveer's voice, she wanted to kill him, she gave him a murderous look

M: what do you want now? She asked

U: princess, who asked you to backstab me. I usually kill people when they betray me, but then death would be too sweet a punishment for you. Now for the rest of your life people would remember you as a lady who had falsely accused a young man, just because he loved her. People will think that you are mad…

M: you…

U: chill baby, there is another reason why I left you alive, you are my first love and will remain so for ever. So princess, my next aim is simple, I won't rest till you become mine, mrs udayveer singh. And even know I love you

M: don't…

U: best of luck with the media, the poor delusional princess of devgarh

Saying this he walked away, his head held high and a smile of victory on his lips.
