Besharam Tareekhe!
' Rajkumari Maanyata!'
Maanyata stopped in her tracks as the Rajmata materialized in front of her. Urghh, they just won't leave me alone in this palace, she thought, while forcing herself to smile at the woman who claimed to be her grandmother.
'Maanyata...humein pata hai ki aap is vakt kis daur se guzar rahi hai...' (I know what you're going through right now)said Dadisahab, noticing the look of irritation on Maanyata's face.
So she knows how much that witch is irritating me, Maanyata thought disgustedly, And yet she will tell me to keep quiet as usual.
'Waise aap chinta mat kijiye...Uday aur Jai ke beech main aisa kuch nahi hai..(Don't worry, there's nothing between Uday and Jai)'
Maanyata frowned. Okay, she'd been wanting to complain about Ms. Spoilt Princess. From where did the dog appear?
'Aap to jaante hi hai ki yeh media waale kaise hote hai..'(You know how these mediapersons are) said Dadisahab awkwardly. Why is the old woman looking so scared? As if I care what Uday and Jai are doing. They seem to be made for each other anyway.
'Haa haa,' said Maanyata, giving an uncomfortable grimace, before scurrying out of her grandmother's sight. Rajmata Saheb sighed as she looked at her elder granddaughter disappear.
It was true that by giving Jai false delusions of a marriage to Udayveer, she had not done the right thing. But Maanyata was also her granddaughter. And Maanyata had been promised to Uday when they had been children. Jai and Uday's relation had just been a temporary arrangement. But Jai seemed to be hell-bent on wrecking her elder sister's engagement now.
I hope Uday has the sense to know which princess he has to stay with...thought the Rajmata finally.

'To kya aapne suna?' (So you heard?) Uday asked, leaning against the wall as Maanyata hurried to make a secret telephone call to her friends in the chawl.
Maanyata stopped in her tracks, mentally groaning to herself. Not again. As if he could read her mind, Uday smirked and stepped out of the shadows of the corridor, revealing himself completely to his fiancee. 'I know you don't like me, meri Jungli Billi.'
Maanyata rolled her eyes. 'Agar pata hai hi to...' (If you know then...)
Uday shook her head, as if she had a slight mental retardation, something that she had always suspected him of suffering from. 'Aww Maanyata. You're so adorable. You'll never understand why I irritate you so much.'
'Jaane dijiye humein,' (Let me go)she said firmly, looking like she would twist his arm if he tried to stop her. 'Oh ho,' he said, raising an eyebrow, 'you know, you do behave like a princess, at least when no one's looking.'
'What do you want?' she asked, narrowing her eyes at him.
'Are you irritated about the picture of me and Jai?' he asked, coming closer. She shrank back, automatically feeling nervousness flare up within her,
'What picture?' she said innocently. Uday began to laugh, and then stopped short as he realized that she really had no clue what he was talking about.
He gave an involuntary toss of his hand, the way he was prone to do once he realized it was time to brush certain skeletons under the carpet. 'Nothing,' he said nonchalantly.
Maanyata narrowed her eyes. Now she was very interested. Uday, noticing the wheels of suspicion turning on inside her head, was quick to respond.
'Are you jealous?' he asked casually, without his usual swagger. She looked momentarily taken aback before bursting into laughter. 'Me and jealous?' she said, in a giggly voice. 'Are you serious? Why would I be jealous of you and Jai? Mujhe to waise bhi aapse shaadi nahi karni. (I don't want to marry you anyway).'
A dark shadow passed over Uday's face before he gained control of himself and forced himself to smile. 'Actually I should be jealous of you,' he said, running his hands over her arms, 'after all, your chawl-waala Romeo still might be waiting for you.'
She quavered as she felt his touch, an instant wave of repulsion spreading out throughout her body. Uday ran his hands over stomach and on her waist. 'I think it's time you realized how much competition the poor fellow has from me.'
Maanyata felt a familiar itch tickle her palm, as all the nerve cells in her body braced her for the impact of her hand on his cheek when she slapped him. However, it was as if some other current was running over them and preventing her from pushing him away.
'Tell me Maanyata,' he said, fully aware the discomfort and disgust on the girl's face as he stroked her cheek, brushing the strands of her messy, brittle hair away from her face. His own skin experienced a peculiar sort of revulsion at touching the untidy black waves which were so unlike the perfectly groomed, silky hair of Jai and Unnati. But neither of them could deny the gush of warm, raging blood from their hearts in their skin eclipsing the need to pull away in their minds. 'Does Aakash make you feel this way?'
Aakash, she thought instantly. As if the name were an anchor, she pulled herself out of the nightmarish trance she had fallen into and pushed him away. Uday jerked back as her hands hit him with full force, and the Jungli Billi sprung back into action. Damn, Uday, why did you take his name?
'Besharam tareekhe!'(Shameless fellow!) she yelled, 'don't you ever try this with me again! Haan nai to!'
Without waiting to hear his response, she stomped away. Uday rubbed his chest. She literally aimed for the heart dude, he thought, shaking his head.
Nevermind. There's always a next time for Rajkumar Udayveer, he consoled himself. Till then, there were always other sources of entertainment for him...
