I think that its great that India is finally beginning to advance. Sooner or later, I hope that all of India's classrooms will have air conditioning in them like US and Canada. 😊

I see where you're coming from, but going by the "pampering" logic, even we are being pampered aren't we?

Most of us cook our food on gas stoves instead of making a fire to do so (we even use matches to make fires instead of flint rocks), we travel by bus instead of a horse or bullock cart, we use computers to perform complex calculations instead of the abacus.

Doesn't this imply that we are the biggest bunch of "softies" to ever live on this planet?

Would we stop progress just for the sake of becoming tough? I doubt it.

Honestly, I see nothing wrong in increasing comfort within the classroom; it makes students more productive. Also, its good that Indian students are getting the comfort they deserve.

Plus, people adapt. Maybe having no A/C will result in discomfort for a week or so. But, then ppl get used to it. Its not like learning a new language where it takes ages for one to understand it!

I agree with you indygirl. I have studied in India and my schools/univ did
not have an AC in the classroom and we did very well without it. Its not
just the AC which bothers me, it is the fact that parents have started
giving children a lot of money to flaunt and spend. Why does a 10 year
old need a cell phone? What emergency call does he/she need to make.
The AC, cell phone, personal cars for children are just symptoms of a
greater evil. Children do not need to know that they are different, or that
they have money. Yes, there is a lot of difference between the various
economic classes in India, but parents do not need to make the difference
obvious among children. Children should be allowed to grow up without
being aware of the class differences.
Just my two cents

If we want kids to be prepared for facing life's harsh realities, shouldn't we let them face that in school itself so that once they come out in the real world, it isnt such a shock?

A/Cs are becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity. I'm sure that our parents could have easily lived without radios and television. But, I'm equally certain that we'll not like it now if we are to part with them!

Cell phones are a diff story. I agree that a 10 year old does not need a cell.

For all those saying ALL US schools have ACs..u've got something wrong there..I live in US, go to a very good US school and guess what? Surprise NO AC! Seriously, we do not have AC and kids in my school always complain. Anyways, I mean there are more ways of pampering than AC and I don't feel like kids in other schools are richer than me..i just feel that my school is very stingy.
I really like the fact that India is moving on and providing better things for its citizens. That's a thumbs up from me for that! 👍🏼

well, ya all the us/canada schools have them and i dont see anything wrong in them thats not pampering, its just a basic nesscecity

and in india well, i think its stuipid to NOT have all this and let the students worry about heat or cold rather than putting a damned air conditionar, whats wrong in it anyways?? its not showing off or anything its just a comfort which is better if u have it, u'll be able to concentrate more on the imp. stuff rather than the heat

hmm...
i m in delhi.. n ma skul has ACs...
but theres nuthin wrong wid them... n neither theres anythin wrong wid d skuls without ACs... If ma skul s chargin gud amt of fees n providin ACs, thats fine...
thats more like individual choice...
we anyways have ACs everywhere... in homes... v go 2 any place outside, any resteraunt etc, ACs r everywhere... so ppl do get used 2 them....
i dont think ACs can improve or harm a child's performance... becuz ovr a prd of time, a child gets used 2 d environemnt provided by d skul....
n anyways... its d age of BRANDING... even skuls r becumin branded... i m certainly proud of ma skul... even others r....
