Will the new sanctions stop Iran's nuclear programme?
The United Nations Security Council has voted in favour of new sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme.
The resolution, formally submitted by France and Britain, was passed with 14 votes in favour and one abstention from Indonesia.
The sanctions include a freeze on certain Iranian assets held abroad, travel bans for specific Iranian officials and a ban on the sale of equipment that could have a military use.
Western powers suspect Iran may be developing nuclear weapons, but Iran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful power generation only.
Will these sanctions persuade Tehran to stop its nuclear programme? Are there other ways of dealing with the situation?
