Yeh paramparaayein insaano keliye bani thi
Insaan paramparaaon keliye nahin..
Kya paramparaayein hi sab kuchh hain?
Insaan kuchh bhi nahin??

I think our society is precisely like that. Our world changes everyday, n some paramparaayein dont go hand in hand with time. Peoples' sensitivities are triggered, suddenly a lot is at stake, culture, religion, beliefs..you name it...and the happiness or wishes of a human being go unnoticed. But Im sure it will change just that it will take time...cus as they say "The only constant thing in life is change" and I do believe in it.

very well said soniya. agree with you here. but aren't human beings and paramparaayen co-dependent on each other? Take paramparaye out so that humans don't have to sacrifice their desires.........what next...eventually people will be saying that why law and order??? after all, at times, law does supercede the humans....they are bound by the laws

agree with your quote on change but how come, even after so many years, Indian Culture still seems to be stagnant. why is change so slow and so painful in our culture?

Following up with the posts exchanged between me & Gauri in a different thread....there are many issues which can be raised from the above. I'll deal with the one below.

For me, I know, people always find loopholes in everything. You bring about a change in your own life, your society, traditions, law n order...everything will come with a set of loopholes. They will be used and abused in different ways and directions. Also, the society and its present structure wont be comfortable or even allow any change in the fabric of traditions and paramparaayein as we call them.

Does that mean...we stop bringin in a change? Does that mean what we were following or are following is the best the thing available or to be done? Does that mean...we shud just blindly follow everything handed over to us? For the fear of changing into something unknown with no limits..are we averse to change as a society?

Im not sure if this topic has been dealt with, if yes, please close it 😊

I dont know about law and order anymore Gauri. The one which can be twisted and turned n tossed for our own benefit ..though it does exist in print. I wont even go that way for now

Paramparaayein..traditions..its all a sensitive thing in our mind. I wasnt talking of wiping off every tradition or culture existing in our society completely. There are few adjustments needed, which I feel should change with time..how i dont know. They stopped the practice of Sati N isolation of widows from the society, they pulled the women out of those 4 walls and made them study work exposing them to life, to the outer world which did not include just their kitchens and families. When these things were changed, Im sure many ppl were not happy with it. Somewhere a lot many were frustrated enough to bring in a change.

IMO our indian society...has followed a lot of things without questioning. Call it ignorance or out of respect or just lack of options n avenues. And now the fabric has become so rigid, that its difficult to percolate a change thru it. I guess..thats why its slow n painful...dunno 🤔

We are not averse to change, we have some habits whose side effects make it difficult for us to think of change

Almost all of our parampara's start out of best practices of living lives, to justify it or to make more people follow it the originators tie that up with a religious thing

Now the best practices of life are for that time, when times changes, those best practice needs change, but the tying it with religion hurts

and as we all know, religion is word that ends any debate😉

the trouble with parampara-talks as i see it, is that there is no paramparometer 😆 .
how do we define what's bad? isn;t that a perception?
to me dowry and bride burning is bad parampara. to me, female foeticide is a crime. to me, sexual aparthied and color-based discrimination is wrong.
to me, NOT seeking multiple partners (emotional / physical) when married, is a great parampara. to me, children being provided a sheltered and protected life where they see their parents sharing love is a great parampara. To have non-intefering dadis and nanis telling kids bed time stories is great parampara. To not throw parents in trash😭 even if they mistreated us is a great parampara and even act of human decency!! same holds good for unwanted children 😭.. but people do such things. they break some good paramparas and instead continue to follow certain bad ones.

I guess people DEFINE and BEND parampara to suit their own DESIRES / fulfill their selfish motives and sometimes, and also feel free to misconstrue paramparas.

I don't think as natural beings, we are resistant to changes that are essential. Most of us did get out of the caves, din't we? This breaking parampara has nothing to do with intertia to adapt. It has to do with how we defne our morals.
