Development of the country does not lie in the shopping malls .........

He was speaking of westernisation........

Shopping malls is westernisation...... but not necessarily..... its just a concept of buying anything at one place...... only the looks of malls are westernised thts why its called westernisation........

Development relates to infrastructure, literacy rate, medical facilities, comfort level, Security systems and so many things 😃

I immediately asked, "Why always have Amerca as our parameter to judge development?"

So, the simple question is, "Should progress and development be based on how close we are to America or should there be some other basis for this?"

Hmmmm... Ask an Indian in India if given the oppurtunity to immigrate abroad , where would he/she like to go..😉 And they to come USA in planeloads.😛

Agree with your points here Abhi about the difference in development and westernization.

On the hughlighted part, don't we set a baseline or look up a reference on how well the infrastructure is developing. And for many Indians the reference point seems to be US albeit we have good infrastructure in Japan and in countries like Germany. So yes we look up to the "West" for a reference point most of the time.

I agree but that is because the western countries have achieved this......

Japan has nice infrastructure but thts it.... u cant say it as developed country or so many people would not do suicide.....

Singapore is developed but u cant have manufacturing there..... so it is dependent on world..... Hongkong is developed.... but it was ruled by british and until recently it was ruled so all the development has been brought by british who are western....

so its refered to west because of the historical reality that western countries are more developed.... but Developments is not equal to westernisation as the topic heading suggests😊

It sounds like this person was talking about malls and complexes. I donot understand why this is specifically related to America for the malls and complexes are there in Europe, Africa, China, Japan etc. It is just a means of convenience and an amenity that is gladly accepted. These amenities are close to each area of living and does not have to be huge. In our neighbourhood there is just a small complex that has pharmacy, groceries, walk-in medical clinic, bank, a cafe and ice cream parlour that is very convenient for a busy family and serves its purpose just as well.

However, there is a definite shift of power from western nations to countries like India, Japan, China etc. and that is well recognized fact. The western countries have ruled the world for too long and statistics do say that other nations will surely rise in the 21st century.

Cheers😛

Competative world. What is competition???

Competition is very healthy for growth in any field, agreed? Compete with the best (best = factual POV of the world), compete with who sets example and be unique to be an examle ourselves.
