I know the title sounds quite cliche'd and filmi...If you were thinking 'Argghhh, not aggggain , not one more filmi debate', please read till the end before you write off this topic...

I saw this Rajesh Khanna&Sharmila Tagore starrer for the first time when they telecast it on Doordarshan, when I was quite young...Didn't understand a thing obviously 🤢 ..And thanks to my mom, she conveniently avoided half of my questions with her red eye and all...

I forgot all about this movie over the years, except its beautiful songs..Thanks to 'Raina beethi jaaye', I could use it in the singing competetions and won some prizes too..'bada natkhat hai' is another gem..and the poignance of the movie is reflected in the song 'Chingaari koi bhadke'...And the opening song by Pancham da is a classic by itself..All in all, the music of this movie set Pancham da into a league of his own...

I watched this movie again y'day...Its a piognant story of selfless love, humanity and compassion of a girl called Pushpa...No doubt the movie is a bit too away from the reality and some of the scenes were too filmi..However the emotions that were portrayed, did not seem like fiction, they seemed so real and beatiful..The way in the end she found her family through her selfless love and giving nature, is truly incredible and heart warming... 👏

Ok there, don't start scratching your brains as yet saying 'get to the point, what is there to debate here???'There are some questions that I always wanted to present here in DM to all you intelligent and sensible debaters, just out of curiosity, as to what your POV would be in these matters...After watching the movie, these questions again came to the forefront...

So my questions are:

1.Is love really selfless???

2.Is love the only ingredient that makes a relation successful and everlasting???

3.If not, then what is it that makes a relationship successful???

4.Do we need to legalize/name the relationship to make it selfless and everlasting?

3.Lastly, what are your views on the movie 'Amar Prem'??? 😳 , ok this after watching the movie..I am curious if any of you liked the movie or you just think its another Phillum..

Cheers,
Raksha

1.Is love really selfless???
Between man and woman, no.. people expect something in return after the intial hangover is over. Both sexes guilty. Very Few even try to be a selfless giver, while many don't bother... and it is hard.
Between a parent and child / a pet and master- chances are YES, yet in few cases, it isn't.

2.Is love the only ingredient that makes a relation successful and everlasting???
Unfortunately not.

3.If not, then what is it that makes a relationship successful???
It is more about committment, understanding, support, intimacy and art of momentary ignorance / forgiving.

4.Do we need to legalize/name the relationship to make it selfless and everlasting?
Nope.. not at all. Marriage cert is a piece of paper that has no meaning after a summons is served. FEELINGS, chand taare tod lana, rituals, agni sakshi wachan and all that is important to some, yet not necessary IMO. If the feelings are for real, and one is committed..

3.Lastly, what are your views on the movie 'Amar Prem'??? 😳 , ok this after watching the movie..I am curious if any of you liked the movie or you just think its another Phillum..
I simply love it. 😃 I am not a Rajesh Khanna fan at all, and in spite of that, I love that movie. I did not appreciate it much when I was a kid either.. But now that I know what love is suppose d to be.. I love it.. but no, "I don't hate tears" 😆😆😆 I loved how it shifts gears and focusses on the young boy who remembers Sharmila and comes looking for her and makes her old-age happy.. Aaah.. verry goosebumpy😳😳! She is not even his birth-mother.. & the love is amar-prem. I love that film..

Raksha

1.Is love really selfless??? Not usually.. It is very hard not to expect something from the person you love..Esp when young and needy in every way... If you expect your loved one to call or say certain nice things then it becomes expectation.

2.Is love the only ingredient that makes a relation successful and everlasting??? Noooo...But it certainly helps..

3.If not, then what is it that makes a relationship successful??? Compassion, understanding and give and take... plain and simple..

4.Do we need to legalize/name the relationship to make it selfless and everlasting? Not really but there is something to be said about a piece of paper.. It makes people commit and feel secure.

3.Lastly, what are your views on the movie 'Amar Prem'??? 😳 , ok this after watching the movie..I am curious if any of you liked the movie or you just think its another Phillum..

I saw this movie only once few years back and liked it...

It is a mature love story of 2 disadvantaged people and must not be compared to a regular/normal love story between 2 young people about to get married. Pushpa and Anand never had any expectations from each other nor looked to the other for fixing their sorry life. They just enjoyed each other's company when they met and it was pure bliss.. something very difficult to maintain for married lovers settled into domesticity. Their passion and reverence remained supreme as they were never together for long..

It certainly was a very different kind of love then what we know as love. 😊

Raksha

1.Is love really selfless???

No. Between man and woman usually there are expectations attached. Selfless love could be between parents and child or Owner and pet like myself 😳

2.Is love the only ingredient that makes a relation successful and everlasting???

Nope. There is more to successful and long lasting relationship than love only IMHO 😳.

3.If not, then what is it that makes a relationship successful???

Comittment, trust, faith, Love, Respect, hope, Listening, Passion, understanding, Romance & Sex. Also as QT mentioned forgiveness is very important.

4.Do we need to legalize/name the relationship to make it selfless and everlasting?

Not really. Marriage is just a making a relationship legal on piece of paper for one's own mental security which really goes out the window as soon as one signs the next paper which is Divorce paper. It depends on people what is imp to them.

3.Lastly, what are your views on the movie 'Amar Prem'??? 😳 , ok this after watching the movie..I am curious if any of you liked the movie or you just think its another Phillum..

I loved the movie when I saw it first time as it was released and I still think is great movie. Awesome songs and beautiful love which is rare.

Cheers,

Raksha

2.Is love the only ingredient that makes a relation successful and everlasting??? Not the only ingredient but one of the major ingredient.

3.If not, then what is it that makes a relationship successful??? Love, Understanding, Compassion, Patience Adjustments, Intimacy and Compromise in certain situations.

4.Do we need to legalize/name the relationship to make it selfless and everlasting? Ok first I thought the question was something else so had written differently. Reread the question and answer is.. No.

So my questions are:

1.Is love really selfless??? When we talk about romantic love - No its not.. Parental love is selfless in most cases though 😊

2.Is love the only ingredient that makes a relation successful and everlasting??? Unfortunately No - It usually fades out when the practical life takes over...

3.If not, then what is it that makes a relationship successful??? The maturity and the mental mapping to understand and adjust... Love and compassion just eases out the overall adjustment process

4.Do we need to legalize/name the relationship to make it selfless and everlasting? Not always... Marriage is more like a social stamp that legalizes the relationship, but does it make it selfless - No... A lot of friendships that never end up in marriage are at times lot more stronger

3.Lastly, what are your views on the movie 'Amar Prem'??? 😳 , ok this after watching the movie..I am curious if any of you liked the movie or you just think its another Phillum..

Awesome movie... 👏As you said, just cant get over listening to Badaa natkhat hai re and Raina beeti jaaye...😳 The music of the movie would easily find a place in RD's top 10... The movie itself is very touching.. As actors, I never thought very high of Rajesh Khanna (except Anand) or Sharmila Tagore (except the Satyajit Ray movies), but I think this was one movie were both seemed right for their roles... Though, I would always think that Uttam Kumar was lot better in the original bengali version of the movie 'Nishipadya' 😊

Raksha
