Ooooops, sorry I got to the unedited version first.... 😛 😆

lol. the problem with your reasoning is that it looks at supply/ demand for alfonsos and for langdas just relative to themselves, and does not look at the absolute quantities of one versus another. sure, relative to IT'S SMALL supply, demand for alfonsos might be higher, leading to high prices for alfonsos; and relative to IT'S HUGE supply, demand for langdas might be lower, leading to lower prices. but demand for langdas might be still greater than demand for alfonsos in absolute terms, as illustrated by my example. and when we are talking about consumer preferences, it makes more sense to look at absolute quantities, in which case langdas are the clear winners.😉

which makes the thread on lil knowledge being a very dangerous thing particularly relevant, no?😉😆

once this much at least is clear and we can get to Eco 102, lemme know. there's more stuff available after that too, all the way to advanced degree material.😆

"The Great Mango Wars of IF"

circa 2007 AD

In the summer months of the year two thousand and seven

As the sun shone brightly above in the golden hued heavens

A war began on the India forums

Spanning 64 pages, threatening the decorum

It was the mother of all wars alright

And what lay at the core of this gory fight?

A fruit so sweet that it was called The King

Yellow, so juicy.. the mmmmost delicious thing

Two clans clashed fiercely claiming stake for might

Which was the tastier variety down to the very last bite?

One clan needed to hobble around on a crutch

The other spoke of flavours and qualities such

The war is still on…. it aint over yet

There is fuming , there's fretting and blood and sweat

Reminds me of another famous ongoing war

This too hasn't been decided so far

Cola is what they call the sweetened water

Pepsi and Coke the two squabbling daughters

Alphanso or langda that's a chicken and egg question

So let's leave it at that and use our own discretion

Let's devour the juicy delights to our hearts' content

Why waste precious time in a never ending argument!

Good things dont necessarily over sell..because eventually they might be inherently expensive(.like hapus for eg..).. else you would be wearing gold /diamond all over like bappi da.. Sher ka ek baccha... not a litter of puppies...😆... And in this case hapus sells cos there is a huge demand.. Langda doenst cos not many buy it.. right? Eventually they have to throw it... so they wont sell langda... doenst mean langda is selling so fast that its disappearing..from the shelf...😆

seedhi si baat hai. alfonso production is very limited because demand is very narrow, whereas langdas run most of the season and is grown more widely to meet the larger absolute demands. langdas are more popular you know.😉 when the narrow alfonso season is almost over, and someone must have those last few remaining alfonsos at any cost for pseudo-taste and pseudo-intellectual reasons, they chase the prices up. aur koi baat naheen hai.😛 taste-wise, langdas are better as can be attested by their greater popularity. hope this gets across now😊

Perhaps...But atleast I have the advantage of not getting into the paralysis of analysis...Aam khane se matlab hai ya gutliya ginne se???

sure, relative to IT'S SMALL supply, demand for alfonsos might be higher, leading to high prices for alfonsos; and relative to IT'S HUGE supply, demand for langdas might be lower, leading to lower prices. but demand for langdas might be still greater than demand for alfonsos in absolute terms, as illustrated by my example.

Obviously you seem to be knowing a lot about mango markets( are u considering opening one 😉 , but I will buy it only when you are the Vendor that I am talking about..See a absolute case- like you said..

and when we are talking about consumer preferences, it makes more sense to look at absolute quantities, in which case langdas are the clear winners.😉

Consumer preferences..Again, I would rather consider a first hand source than a bookish perspective...Because our Local Vendor says something else...😛

which makes the thread on lil knowledge being a very dangerous thing particularly relevant, no?😉😆

Good you already know about it, now I don't have to talk about that also

😆 No thanks...If getting to the advanced level means not being able to understand the simple logic...
