First a big welcome to whoever opens this topic😃

Second, Should Psychological Experiments be allowed? Should they be carried out at all?

Because of some studies (from the past) the Psychology guidelines for experiments have been changed and are more strict now and give more importance to the people than the experiment itself.

Link to some studies: https://www.prisonexp.org/ -- a very popular experiment carried out by Zimbardo

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment -- Milgram's experiment -- again a very popular experiment

Both of the above studies involved stress and some of the participtants later said they wished they wouldn't have been a part of this experiment.

Becuase of these experiments we are able to understand humand behaviour but are such experiments fair?

So Now my question is, should such experiments be allowed? If experiments are not gonna be allowed then how would we learn about human behaviour? But if they are allowed then doesn't it cause harm to humans?
  • Are the guidelines of psychological society/association too strict (unnecessarily)?

I know by the end of this post, my whole topic is a bit difficult to understand😳, as I was just gonna revise this topic so thought of posting this here and getting you lots views (who knows I might get some useful points for evaluation😉).

There are many other experiments done on animals but they dont give us as much insight in human behaviour as these experiments do.

Hoping to read your comments!

So Now my question is, should such experiments be allowed?

Yes they should be, for getting statistical data for understanding human behaviourial patterns. This data can be very usefull in many aspects most importantly in crime prevention.

If experiments are not gonna be allowed then how would we learn about human behaviour?

Based on self experience Or based on experiences of other humans.

But if they are allowed then doesn't it cause harm to humans?

Humans or say subjects, its not mandatory to take these tests right. One is payed to go through such test, he/she should be made aware of the mental or physical challenge they are into rest is thier choice. Now there should be limit - if experiment literally becomes a torture then minimal guidelines should be laid. On a humorous note person laying the guidelines should be subjected to few of these experiments to justify the rule set. 😆

Are the guidelines of psychological society/association too strict (unnecessarily)?

Sorry, I didn't read the links you provided - would take a pass on this one.

BTW - Very nice post 👏 , mentally lil stressfull - hope this is not one of the experiements 😆

Edit - Related to this topic I recall a post from BigBoss forum that I found very interesting. Read the original post of the poster.

Experiments such as Milgram and Zimbardo may have been unethical, but without them we would not have learnt about how people behave.

I am a psychology student, I actually had to write a 4000 word essay on Milgram's findings and obedience 🤢 But yeah, it's out lawed nowadays, you can't replicate Zimbardo or Milgram nowadays.
