Teasing is the act of harassing other person playfully or maliciously or to ridicule someone for something that a person may lack or which may not be considred normal by others.

Have seen people teased individuals who have cross eyes, for people who stammer, for being short, for being tall or some irregularity in the face, etc... One of my friend's neighbour has cleft and whenever she speaks, naturally it comes out differently at few times and for a new person sometimes it is difficult to understand it and on her face some might react differently with various not so good facial expressions or if she is talking on the phone and the other person doesnt understand he/she will shout so loudly like aaaaaaa what.... she becomes speechless and keeps the phone down. How to counter such behaviour?

Why do people tease other people?

Do people get statisfaction by teasing others?

Have you ever teased anyone?

Have you been teased?

How to counter teasing?

Obviously to show themself superior and it's most of the time comes from jealousy.

Do people get statisfaction by teasing others?

Maybe they get some kind of mental satisfaction or superiority complex. Afterall, whoever indulges in such behaviour is extremely low in self-confidence and needs that bit of ego boost to think of themself as superior.

Have you ever teased anyone?

If you also mean friendly teasing then yes, everyone does that and it's not done with any intention to hurt someone, just some plain harmless fun among friends. But teasing someone about some physical deformity is disgusting to say the least. ๐Ÿคข

Have you been teased?

Well I haven't faced teasing of the kind that you mentioned. But when I was a kid and was in school, till 3rd standard I used to get beaten by other students almost everyday. And then when I became the aggressor and started beating them even without any provocation these guys simply learnt how to shut up before me. Any bully is just another coward.

How to counter teasing?

Don't stop socialising just because some person is trying to demean you. There are always people who'll appreciate for your quality and work and not for your physique. Make friends and then beat the bully at their own game. Also try to learn laughing at yourself and your shortcomings that way whatever others say will have no effect on you, which will irritate them even more. However, I don't believe in keeping silent when faced with an insult. Every person has some shortcomings, try to find the bully's (the more personal and private the better ๐Ÿ˜†) and the next time s/he insults you retort with something like 'Atleast I'm not a .......... (fill in the blank with your choicest insult, not expletives) like you' ๐Ÿ˜›.

I agree with Soumya..basically it's to let someone down or may be jealousy..and by talking nicely straight forward we can stop that or atleast try to avoid that circumstances...also we should try to find out why front person is teasing and weather it is in good manner or bad then we can take action accordingly ๐Ÿ˜Š

Whever i tease, i do it in a fun way, no intention to hurt the other. And when i do do it, it is only to my friends, who know me very well and we always pull each other's leg, so to speak.๐Ÿ˜›

And if we do tease in a joking way, from our actions and tone the other would know if it is teasing in a fun way or in a mallicious way. E.g i always teases guys, so funny. But for example when i tease my friend Jayan, i will call him DJ Whizzy, as he always calls me Se-ar-rah, and it is just friendly teasing/banter between us, and we both do it to each other, and wind the other up.

So thats teasing in a friendly way, but it is different if it is mallicious and i have never done this as i always treat people how i would like to be treated myself. And it is just best to avoid malliciousness.

Why do people tease other people?

some kind of underlying and undealt with inferiority complex, that reflects as superiority and hence a trait of finding flaws in others and laughing at them :( it is sick.. sometimes, it is an acquired behaviour under peer pressure / parents ๐Ÿคข doing the same.

Do people get statisfaction by teasing others?

yes, they actually do. it is momentary, but it is fun and precisely why such people engage in such behaviour unless made to stop.

Have you ever teased anyone?

counter-teased till they cried and stopped teasing me.

Have you been teased?

yes, plenty, for my glasses at young age

How to counter teasing?

that depends on who you are teasing, AGE and MATURITY of the people involved, extent of hurt caused, where the teasing occured (one on one / public place) among other factors

Sweta,

Good Topic ๐Ÿ‘

Ok there is different way I look at teasing as the word goes but let me answer your questions assuming teasing is meant as a lighter version of insult. ๐Ÿ˜ณ sorry if I misunderstood.

Why do people tease other people?
Cowards who cannot talk straight on face take this route to take spit dirt on others.

Do people get satisfaction by teasing others?
Yes! Internal dirty piece of mind and heart is going bonkers with happiness.

Have you ever teased anyone?
Yes! Part of life, no one can help it. I got lots of, not so makes sense things, will avoid elaborating.

Have you teased?
Yes! Mostly while defending or countering the negative comments on oneself.

How to counter teasing?
Easy.. give then back only in limits that they understand every individuals have + and โ€“'s OR just say - HA! r u serious.

My perception of teasing:

First rule of teasing - see if the person can take it sportingly. Teasing should n't be replaceable with insult and teasing should n't constitute natural physical/mental/verbal deformities.

Teasing : is just another way to have fun/entertainment/increase-bonding with people you care or like, in turn providing feedbacks in teasing comments BUT teasing should be ALWAYS within LIMTS. Teasing near ones for who got red color to hairs or got make over or has shabby life style etc. I mentioned feedback for example you can say hey dude man where you talk 20 bugs drop dead on ground, go see a dentist lol... or something like that...

Edit - font color of questions.

Why do people tease other people?

some kind of underlying and undealt with inferiority complex, that reflects as superiority and hence a trait of finding flaws in others and laughing at them :( it is sick.. sometimes, it is an acquired behaviour under peer pressure / parents doing the same. I so agreed... many a times parents talking between themselves and the child overlistening their conversation, influence their children thought process..... [have seen it happening.. not teasing but excluding one child from the playgroup๐Ÿ˜ก]

The thing is the person who is been teased is already low on confidence and any further attack (teasing) on that makes them go more into their shell. Many a times in the given situation, we are blanked out and later on feel that we should have said such and such thing but the time has pass... Building ones confidence is a huge thing and a long process... any ideas on how to build it quickly... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also any more counter teasing ideas are welcome ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Thanks everybody ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Teasing is not a big issue unless and untill one teases on the Physical, mental, financial conditions of a person.

In real life,I do tease people but in a decent manner ,that too only people who don't misunderstand me!!

I think in IF I get teased by elders like Dr AS,Jatayu uncle ,MNMS ji,QT ji and all.I too mind teasing and getting teased but.... only to certain limit.Every thing depends on our perception!!

If people are really bugging you by unhealthy teasing then... we need to counter attack by own unique methods

๐Ÿ˜ณ

Cheers,

Mythili
