India is a secular country but our laws and policies necessarily doesn't agree with it. Do you think that for a secular India we need a uniform civil code? Refer: What is a uniform civil code

Nice topic, Yes, I definitely think that UCC is essential.
Also, I love to drive on the right side of the road. Why else would I leave India? 😆
I'll come back later with a more sensible post, but you will know what i was refering to!😉😆

From the link

Usage of this term is prevalent in India where the Constitution of India lays down the administration of a uniform civil code for its citizens as a Directive Principle, but has not been implemented till now. The secular Uniform Civil Code is opposed by Muslims, Christians and parties like the Indian National Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). These are also referred to as "secularists". Those in favour of a secular Uniform Civil Code are the Bharatiya Janata Party , the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. These are also referred to as "Communalists". Thus, in India, there exists a peculiar situation where the opponents of a secular law are called "Secularists" while those in favour of a secular law are termed "communalists" or even "fascists".

So if the Congress people were the one's framing the constitution, and they are disagreeing with it for 50 years

Classic case of "HAVING THEIR CAKE AND EATING IT TOO"

Earlier, the different laws were serving the purpose as each religion has different terms and by law they should not be made to follow some other customs in their own religious rituals and relations.... but now with increasing number of cross religious marriages.... I seriously feel there is a need of uniform civil code so everyone knows of their rights and responsibility irrespective of marrying to a person of other cast and religion.... 😃

In our secular India till we have caste and religion based reservation quota system one people-one law is an implausible dream.

My reasoning on why we were unsuccessful in adopting common civil code-

1. Most political parties opposing this law has minority as vote bank. So they continue to reject for obvious reasons.

2. Common people belonging to minority are doubtful about loss of their actual identity and marginalized in Indian society.
