I honestly dont know why Dubai is such a tourism hub... What do they have to offer other than a bunch of shiny new buildings and malls that are aplenty in Europe or North America or China?
I have been here twice... I remember the first time i was really excited ..i guess i was thinking k i m going to gulf version of London or NYC but i kind of deflated on the way from dxb airport... I havent even be to the top of Burj Khalifa... My husband went once and said k the view is over rated... I believe him..
Maybe now that i m here, i ll have the oppurtunity to see some culture? The old dubai .. The real culture and not this shiny new toy...
Maybe i feel like this because i m from lahore... They is so much that is packed into that one city.. islamabad is kind of our dubai (though no where near as modern ) all new houses and boring people going to the same handful of restautants and those same 2-3 shopping hubs ... Pffft
Having said that, i do enjoy the malls here 😆 especially in such heat .. You dont have to go far for entertainment... Stuff like ski dubai ( we were actually thinking of doing the penguin experience for her birthday but the minimum age for that is 3) or the fountain or dino or aquarium... Then there is kidzania and little explorer... Plenty of stuff for maryam to do until autumn when we ll probably have a look at the wild wadi and all that...and i love the variety in cuisine!! DCC is one of the smaller malls and you have hatam's and pf chang and nandos and chili's and a bunch if continental restaurants all in one space
But i guess it is a pretty great work wise .. And the facilities provided ... Metro is great... If it works, we probably wont even get a car ... Living here is not as expensive as i thought..rent is the biggest expense (and then probably schooling yikes) but stuff like groceries and utilities are very reasonable...
And i like the multicultural aspect definitely...
I have been here 10 days and met a Belgian, a south african, a keralite, ... Philipinos are every where... Its good .. And i think this kind if exposure will be good for Maryam in the long run...
My husband's brother also lived here but now they are moving to england for their kid's university... He told us that the dubai is great place to live and all that but they made a mistake staying here for 6 years .. Should have moved to europe long ago... He told us to stay here for 3 years and then go to europe or australia or canada .. Whereever we can...lets see where life takes us..
