Reality Show Contests---Giving one false hopes?

Hi everyone!

I've always been a fan of reality singing and dancing competitions, but I've often wondered if the contestants are getting mislead. I have seen it happen season after season whether it is an Indian reality show or American one, that the contestants are very popular during the time of the show, but then they seem to just fizzle out. I have even noticed this with the winners. They are really popular during and around the time of the show, but then they too fail to maintain the popularity despite being so talented. Most of us even forget who that person was after a few months.

I personally think there are way to many reality platforms and such little opportunity for these people. i know some of them get good exposure and learn some good skills, but majority of them end up taking those skills and have to make a different career out of it (not dancing or singing related). It makes me sad because these people are so talented, but they are not able to use their talent in the way they were told they should. The judges tell them that they are so talented, and that they will make it big. The audience also gives them such good support and feedback, but it's all short-term. Most of these people do not receive the help and support after the show is over, and it is sad to see such good talent being wasted.

I guess the point of debate here is, are reality shows giving contestants a sense of false hope? Are they giving people higher expectations than can be delivered?

Can someone address the question raised by her? I am not an expert so dont know what are the prospects. Otherwise the fox would have loved to give his input. My take is that yes they are given false hopes. Then again some have sang a song or two as well.
There was a clown in SRGMP called Vineet Singh. He has girlish voice. Someone told me he sang with Himesh in Hookah Bar

I think he is the one doing "ooo oo ooo ooo ooo"

Yes, Vineet is Himesh's pet. He really adored his voice and helped him out a lot! I think Vineet did sing with Himesh in Hookah Bar.

Thanks for at least trying to add to the conversation! 😃 Seems like no one else found it to be interesting to add to. 😆

I find some Reality tv shows are very educating... Every time somebody turns on a show, I go into the other room and read a book..

Well Rajah Hassan did not win the SRGMP but he is one of those who used the contest to his advantage and went on to sign for some films. True talents will always make it like Shreya, Sonuji etc who used the SRGMP platform well.
Some of the contestants like Barbie even became a TV actress because of her good looks, singing was average I would say.
In DID quite a few of the good dancers made a name for themselves too.
Still those who never made it are far more than the rest. I think even Debu who won the contest against Vineet did not do so well. No one knows if the contest was partially rigged.
In American Idol several of the top 10 artistes have done very well. I still like Adam Lambert who was pure talent, he was the runner's up but has done wonderfully. In AI they have the Budget to push the singers.

India churns our zillions of songs every year and it can be pretty competitive but luckily the market is definitely growing mainly because of Bollywood.
Many classical singer may feel neglected because of Bollywood too, but the best will always be respected.
In playback singing I notice it is RFK and Shreya I often hear. Others too are coming in but generally Bollywood singers are only a handful.

Yes, you are right that some of them have done very well, but that's just a few out of the thousands of people who compete on these different platforms over the years.

Even in AI, there are only a few singers that have actually sustained their fame long after the season.

Nowdays talent is not enough for success..Somewhere I think they need godfather..As example,Shreya Ghoshal is talented, but Sanjay Leela Vansali gave her a golden chance to sing in his film 'Devdas'..
