Alright familial pressure seems to be a big deal. Can someone clarify what they consider unacceptable pressure put on by families?

Say your family is forcing you into marriage, for the sake of being married; or get you to marry someone you have no inclination towards. The reasons Asian women are given to force marriage on them are pretty regressive. This type of familial pressure is wrong...your family should see the flipside here and realize society's standards don't come above your happiness.

But if you're with someone you have already accepted as your life partner, soul mate, etc. and your family wants you to get married to make it "official", then why is it such a big deal? Sometimes happiness of your family, especially parents, is reason enough to forsake some principles you might have. I think there is more to our existence than just the me, myself, and I. If that makes sense.

Agreed M. I'm not saying go against family and refuse to get married, just asking if you were happy and in this world you could have a family without being married would you still get married... Maybe not. But that said I agree it is wrong to force people to get married when they dont want to. I bet you that itself would reduce domestic violence, death due to dowry, marital depression.. But then again well.. I am sure in some cases it has worked for the better when couples were forced to get married. Like you said its subjective and depends on the situation.. But ultimately I doubt people would get married if it wasn't another rule. Now I'm beginning to see everything as a rule. Suddenly life makes sense.. Now time to follow another rule necessary for my sanity.. Sleep. Good nite M.

Hmm.. might as well attend your reception since I am already there.. I mean in hell! Where in hell will it be .. can you send me the exact location?? 😛

Partnership deed..? like the relationship agreement ..? 😛 I love the idea!!!!
Good luck with your perfect marriage.. if it works out, you should tell me what all you put in that deed of yours.. so I can add the terms to mine! Unfortunately even a partnership deed can't ensure that my significant other will follow it..I'm sure.. hmm.. unless I put a curse on it.. interesting idea.. If he breaks the deed, he will be cursed for the rest of his life.. I have already been called a witch, might as well put those spells into good use .. ee-hee-hee-hee <witchy laugh>

You wanna know my exact location ? .Why ? Do you wanna tip off the cops so that they arrest me even in the hell ...😆

Re read what I had written ...I too did the same ..Business Partnership I said ...Do ya consider marriage as business or what ? ...😆

Oh! Haha ..Don't forget the law miss ...Everyone must abide by that ...If they don't wanna meet the same fate as I do every now and then ...😆 ..Is Not getting married considered a proof of solidarity and love these days ? ...😆 ..Oh! I trust ya so much hun ! ..So let's have a live in relation ..Cause I'm blindfolded ..and I won't even doubt ya when you go on those fishy busniess tours for days together ..May be to llive with another live in partner ? Hahahaha ... 😆

Get married Damsel ...Trust me you ll love me for what I 'd said ...

Some people like the idea of giving labels to relationships; others don't need the title of girlfriend, wife, etc. to make their relationship any more real or sincere. Human nature works well with guidelines, expectations though, and it's why things like religion, marriage exist.

At the end of the day, it's a piece of paper..shouldn't be given extreme importance over everything nor should it be shunned and renounced as if the plague. It's all very subjective, do what helps you sleep at night.

Very well said ...👏

The Hell ' <<< 😆 ..Um ..Just take a right from my home walk 20 miles eastwards ..then turn left ..and you ll find a ladder that you must descend to reach there ..😛 Thats why some ppl no longer fear The hellTongue

😆 On a serious note : ..If someone truly has a will to live with their partner all their life ...Why should they fear signing a piece of paper ? << Marriage certificate I mean ...😆 when I ask same thing to my friend she replied ''marriage? no thanks I can't mate in captivity.' 😆 ..Look at it as a procedure ...Like if you wanna become someone's business partner ..No matter how blindly you trust the person ..you must sign a partnership deed with em ..Its Kalyug ..you see...And its far from over ...😆 ..So there is nothing wrong in taking that little shrewd decision ...for your own safety ..If you understand the human nature ...

Another serious note: Actually marriage is a effort to legalize love..marriage has failed because ppl could not rise to the standard tht thy were expecting of marriage..for some ppl its a dilemma.. ...when ppl try to do opposite of love...the power/domination/supremacy/caged situations, but marriage teaches many things in life, how to adjest, how to love, how to communicate, how to respect, how to mature and imature, bondage, how to dependent on the other, fatherhood, motherhood n more...😊

But Vintu, is it safety? In this day and age what safety does marriage confer? If you're talking about Indian society then safety from wagging tongues, from being labelled a 'loose woman'?
Is it safety from unfaithful behaviour? Safety from falling out of love? It's not that hard to divorce...

I agree if you love each other why fear signing a bit of paper...but who are you signing it for?

@Aarya you hit the nail on the head: are you getting married for yourself or for your family?

Well ...Sadly not every guy, girl in the world is credible or a Saint ...😆 ..There are people and a hell of a lotta em .who keep changing their Love like they change their clothes ..every now and then ...The question is ..Is one life nuff to know a person fully ? You never know when and why he or she would change ...Change for the worse I mean ..

And again .,.not every girl is smart nuff to handle the rammifications of a failed live in relation ...And live in relations do fail ...If 50 % of marriages fail ..90 % of live in relations also do ...And I guess we are on about the masses here ..Not the exceptions ..Like Romeo and Juliet ...😆

Safety is needed ...Begamy or let's say polygamy must be charged for ..The law is the woman's safety net ...You go ditching ..bring out a beast that hid well inside the Lover that you were ..only if you can afford it ..The maintainance charges I mean ..

And here I'm going past the emotional tangent okay ? ...and talking more on the material terms ..Its life you see ...So its better to be safe than sorry ...😆

Some interesting views! I can understand why women would want to get married but why men? There are some who would prefer and insist on getting married to live ins. What is in it for them?

One funny but true benefit of the system I find is it controls population growth to a great extent! I mean when one is not bound in the marriage and free to leave the partner whenever he wish, he would produce as many kids he wish from various partners in his life cylce. (Its a sad case for the children of course when they are left with either one of their parent)

Disclaimer: The 'he' can be 'she' also here

This time of the year, all I can think of is why the hell did I get married. We would have happily filed our Income tax papers separately, and saved a lot of money. 😕 😛

Rest, I will leave it to the experts 😊
