I know: sit back and enjoy the madness! But even going beyond fan obsession, people become obsessive over the strangest things...it's fascinating and can be scary for the person being obsessed as well - I'm sure at some point even that person must realise that something is off about their behaviour. Are most people who are obsessed truly not aware they've gone OTT or are they deliberately in denial about it? In fact do most people with an obsession admit they have an obsession?I remember reading somewhere that individuals with autism and that spectrum of disorders often have obsessive behaviour over objects and routines...
Aww it's good being a self-phanki - someone's got to love you, might as well be yourself! đI think it's a teensy step forward if you admit you have a problemo of some kind and that your obsession isn't 'normal'. Obsession is an extreme emotion. People use the term obsession lightly, but actually it can be quite worrying.@BD you were talking about obsessions that don't give emotional comfort or don't have positive feelings. I think all obsessions help people descend into the emotional quagmire...eventually.What about people who aren't so entertaining in their obsession? What about people who stalk the object of their possession - quite common with Hollywood stars? What about those who kill or just go plain psycho as a result of their obsession?
Truly, this OTT behavior is taxing. Ask me all about it, my self-fixation puts Narcissus to shame. đAs with any disorder, you'll see ones that know they have issues and you'll see those that are in denial...is either group better or worse off?Regarding fans, sometimes I think they actually obsess more over proving they are fans to outsiders rather than actually being fixated on their hero. It becomes a game...like keeping up appearances I guess.

Couldn't keep away now !!I think it is more of a cult syndrome, I don't know how but something I have observed here is that some people are just obsessing over something because their ego is at stake. They know what they are doing is absolutely pathetic and doesn't makes sense at all but just because he/she is at loggerheads with the other group or the rival fan base , they will do anything to glorify their favorite, even if their favorite looks fugly and is not even worthy of all that craze and wet dreams.Sounds familiar , Isnt it?Does it ring a bell?đAs you said, it is all about keeping up the appearances for their craze, even if the object of their obsession fails to make an effort to at least look presentable in public.đ
