I have always wondered if people are more comfortable being anonymous vs. being on FB?

^^ Well, with me things were slightly different . I was first on IF and then on FB because some of my friends coaxed me into opening an account there 😆 My name there means " nameless " so I dont know how it is any different from IF .

no no.. i am not talking about the chronology.. whatever you join first, IF or FB .. the difference here is the PURPOSE.
@red: the main difference is the purpose!! the purpose of joining FB is socialising and the purpose of joining IF is expressing our views on different topics, bollywood, daily soaps, incidents etc etc.

BTW, the same thing happened to me.. when i made friends on IF they urged me to join twitter..!! 😆

but then again my earlier post is correct that we join IF to express ourselves.. subsequently we make friends here.. then we join a social networking website to keep in touch.. and subsequently other things happen..

I dont think that the two are necessarily mutually exclusive... besides, one may not know the person inspite of having the full personal details.

In my case the purpose happened to be the same I guess so I ended up using FB the same way as IF 😆 The groups formed in FB with a specific purpose of discussing a specific topic or field serves about the same purpose as IF only that it could be wider as it could be on subjects other than the TV serials or bollywood : ) Socialising need not be the priority for every member on FB.

A social networking site could be a neat way to keep in touch where geographical barriers are concerned but it could get a bit worrisome when we hear of people living under the same roof resorting to these networks as a means of communication in preference to a face to face meeting or a phone call! Get well messages over FB to friends living a block or two away is seen as more convenient or non intrusive to wishing in person! The social networking could end up making people less social

ok.. 😆
but widely FB purpose is socialising and IF purpose is expressing views.. but then ofcourse it varies from person to person.. as i said the same happened to me 😊

@blue: its so damn true.. these social networking sites have made friendships and commitments so convenient that people actually don't take efforts to keep up to the other person!!

and when a person doesn't go online frequently & prefers a real flesh and blood meet over an online one.. they say he/she isn't tech-savvy or even anti-social

I agree to some extend, but majority of the time people on FB are not anonymous. And they won't share the details that they share here on IF.
