Why always women?? in everything?? why should we suffer??

In india, mostly in the rural areas still women are considered low! low of everything!! she just has no right!! no right to freedom.. nothing!! still she is just a machine in the house who has to work and listen to all what her husband or in laws or even parents say! if she dares to open her mouth she has to bare all the pain!! she is just a means to get a child or the heir!! if its a boy then it is because of 'their' son they got a boy but same thing if it is a girl it is the fault of the mother! why??

Even in urban areas women are degraded! why?? what wrong have we done?? we do something wrong we are wrong, but if we are right then also we are wrong!! why?? boys can roam freely anywhere but girls have curfew!! and according to the women it is the women who make the men ra*e them!! its all mistake of the girl! but why?? just by wearing clothes we want does it mean the men have to ra*e?? they ae not humans but animals!!

In all these customs we, we women suffer! child marriage, widow remartiage, domestic violence ra*e!! everything!! when women are in their menstrual cycle they are considered ashudh, but what about men?? when according to god both are equal then why is man discriminating??

And still no justice has been done! that pain undergone by that girl is all forgotten!! they said justice will be given!! where is justice!??? is it only in a country like india or every where else?? my heart cries each day for every one, for myself!! and I can just tell wy od letting all this hppen?? why can't he the creater stop this?? why?? do u all have any answer??

Hi Gawri

So nice to see u here and topic u raised is all so debated yet always seems to have a need of debate

Its gonna take long time to give real empowerment to women in iIndia...the male chauvinist mentality is centuries old and it may take a least a century or two change it

The work of empowerment has been initiated at least ...but their is a imbalance regarding the meaning of empowerment just the way their is a imbalance between rural and urban India .

We have a long way to go till then what we can do is keep the fire alive till their is a break of dawn of real empowerment of Indian women

Men have more physical strength. what happened was that they took a more extrovert role and therefore were able to setup a system which benefits them. It will be very difficult for women to come out of that. The only solution is for men to realize that they have been unfair in past so they need to correct their act. This is happening and women are doing much better and a level playing field is being promoted. I understand where you are coming from but with time things will improve. Please relax.

Womens empowerment should begin in the family...how many times are women asked whether they would work after they had kids? How many times are men asked the same question??!?! cos still india people keeping the same old thoughts with them...women empowerment can take place only if the women feels that there is safety in travel, shopping, working and social activities...we can see/hear daily news that in bus stops, railway stations and workplace are teased and harassed every minute ..the problem I feel all politicial parties are prompt in agitating and fighting for more wages, pensions, allowances etc. but there is nobody to fight to basic infrastructure...😕

You're right in that most women probably cannot go through their lives without facing discrimination, subtle forms of violence, or maybe even actual violence. The simple answer is that it's because of patriarchy, and because of how power works in society.

We can fight that, though, and women all over the world, including in India, find ways to resist patriarchy and have made interesting gains over the decades.

But yes, women do participate in patriarchy, and women promote it and sustain it by "choosing" to be subservient, "choosing" to raise their daughters to be good wives someday, etc. etc. But it's not really a choice most of the time if that's the best thing you can do within the circumstances of your life. So we can't just blame women. And we can't blame men either.

We are all complicit in patriarchy, and therefore we are all accountable. What we have to do is challenge systemic forms of oppression, and educate both men and women to join us in challenging it.
