You're right in that most women probably cannot go through their lives without facing discrimination, subtle forms of violence, or maybe even actual violence. The simple answer is that it's because of patriarchy, and because of how power works in society.
We can fight that, though, and women all over the world, including in India, find ways to resist patriarchy and have made interesting gains over the decades.
But yes, women do participate in patriarchy, and women promote it and sustain it by "choosing" to be subservient, "choosing" to raise their daughters to be good wives someday, etc. etc. But it's not really a choice most of the time if that's the best thing you can do within the circumstances of your life. So we can't just blame women. And we can't blame men either.
We are all complicit in patriarchy, and therefore we are all accountable. What we have to do is challenge
systemic forms of oppression, and educate both men and women to join us in challenging it.
