It is a matter of embracing the concept, you will see it in practice in the West and in theory in india. A lot of Indians are exceptionally great at ratofying the theory😉

I disagree. I live outside India yet I feel that I'm more traditional than people living in India.

It is one thing to be traditional, entirely another to be liberal. Are you liberal?

There are different aspects of being liberal.
I need to be specified in which aspect?

A wholesomely liberal person is liberal in all aspects, y'know? Most of the times the country they live in plays a major role in deciding it for them.

As for being traditional, it is simply being close to your country's traditions and festivities. It does not have anything to do with your perspective of things.

In that matter, the country plays a lesser role than you, yourself. Liberality is different for each person mostly because of their own experiences rather than the country in which they've been brought up.

No being traditional does have alot to do with how liberal one is. Its not just about festivals and being all goody-good. Its always said that a more traditional person is less liberal.

Well, I personally think it breaks even in many ways. My cousins in Europe are very religion oriented, but where as my parents in terms of religion are very liberal. But, in terms of dating and going out, (not my parents) but parents in India can get be a little close minded. The west has defined what "liberal" means, so anyone raised there is certainly more liberal. But India, at least in the metro cities have become very open minded. Indians born there tend to to think that India will always be conservative and that's why are in for a surprise when they see how open we have become. But that does not make them less liberal, it just means its the same amount of everywhere, just with which you look at it changes.

What is liberal? Well, I remember a lady telling me "Your mom is so liberal!" when she found out that my mother allowed me to go on dates and talk to the opposite sex. When I visited Mumbai, my cousin told me "So what? Everybody here dates. Some parents even know that their kids are having sex."
I remember Indian men in Mumbai telling me "We don't care about virginity. This isn't some village", whereas the Indian boys I grew up with in America said they would only marry a virgin.
Another man from Mumbai told me "Most young people don't do arranged marriages anymore", yet Indian parents in America expect their kids to get an arranged marriage.

Doesn't matter where you are raised, it all depends on your family environment.

I have seen people who live and grew up in Pakistan, who are more liberal and western than some people who live in the States. In the case of Pakistan, it becomes an issue of class. Upper class tend to be more western.

In the states, even the more liberal ones tend to be a little more conservative in hopes of trying to retain some culture.

While people may more liberal as per Desi standards, most are still somewhat conservative hen you compare them to truly westernized people.
