After condemning the Mumbai train blasts, Pakistan has said the "best way" of dealing with extremism in South Asia is to tackle "real issue" of Jammu and Kashmir.

Noting that there has been progress in Indo-Pak composite dialogue process to resolve bilateral issues, Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmoud Kasuri, however, said not much progress has been made on Kashmir problem.

"If you look at it positively, there has been more progress in the second round than in the first round... On the issue of Jammu and Kashmir we have not made much progress. There have been some confidence building measures but even those are half hearted," he said.

"Incremental approach is good but now we must tackle real issues. And this is the best way of tackling extremism in South Asia," Kasuri, who is on a visit to US, told an audience at the Carnegie Endowment for Peace here yesterday.

completely agree...and by issuing such a statement,Pakistan put its foot in its mouth by saying that they are not really against usage of terror for resolving jammu and kashmir....First of all,J&K or no J&K,nothing warrants terrorists to bomb a train.....It would be interesting to see as to whether they would say the same thing had Pakistan been bombed by the Kashmiri terrorists

Mr. Kasuri was quoted as saying in an interview to Reuters in Washington: "I think the Mumbai incident — however tragic it may be, and it is undoubtedly very tragic — underlines the need for the two countries to work together to control this environment, but they can only do so if they resolve their disputes."

Going after an interview given by Kasuri in Washington on Tuesday night, the foreign office took exception to Kasuri's linkage that terrorist acts against India would cease if India settled its Kashmir issue with Pakistan, making the obvious inference that the two were related.

On da one hand Mr Parvez Musharff was da first who condemning bomb blasts & on da other hand their Foreign minister is making such statements. then they r saying dont blame us.R they condemning this frm their heart?I dont think so.this statement has double meanings. yeh to wahi baat hui "muhn main ram ram bagal main churi" & we all know about that.

Now even india's home ministry has officially confirmed that LeT & SIMI r involved in it.Where these groups r based? frm where they r getting money & support? everyone knows that answer.

this time our Govt should definitly take a strong decision. These dialogues will not do anything except visiting of ministers to each other's country & giving bhashans.

The Home Ministry has confirmed the involvement of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in the Mumbai blasts.

As per investigations carried out so far, SIMI provided local logistics for the deadly blasts that rocked Mumbai on Tuesday, killing 186 people and injuring 772 others.

There is a state of high alert in Mumbai. All local and long-distance trains, including those on the Western Line, are running on time.

Around 180 people were rounded up in the Malvani area in the western suburbs of Mumbai. 23 people are still being questioned.

Vigilant commuters at Bhayander station handed over four suspicious people to the police. The police are questioning the people who had reportedly abandoned some bags on the platform.

In Delhi several domestic and international flights are running late due to stringent security measures following the Mumbai blasts.



Militants kill four Hindus in Poonch

Thursday, July 13, 2006 (Jammu):

In a pre-dawn strike, militants on Thursday killed four Hindus, including two girls, in Poonch district, official sources said.

Rebels barged into two houses in the district's Magnar village around 1:00 am (IST) and opened fire on the family members of Ashok Kumar and Mangu, the sources said.

The militants also knocked at the doors of other houses but nobody opened, they said.

Those killed have been identified as Priyanka and Menaka, daughters of Mangu, and Lokesh and Pankaj, sons of Ashok Kumar.

The injured have been identified as five-year-old Kamini and Sunita Devi, daughter and wife of Mangu, the sources said adding the ultras later escaped from the spot.

Police and security forces have rushed to the area and launched search operations to track down the militants.

Earlier, militants had killed 22 Hindus in Kulhand of Doda district on April 13 and 16 other Hindus in Basanthgarh of Udhampur district on May 1. (With PTI inputs)

LUCKNOW: A day after the Uttar Pradesh police chief said raids were being conducted at hideouts of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) on suspicion of its links with the Mumbai blasts, the state's ruling Samajwadi Party on Thursday virtually gave the outlawed group a clean chit, saying it was not a "terrorist organisation". 😡

"SIMI is not a terrorist organisation. Some of its members may be involved in terrorist activities and action should be taken against them," Samajwadi Party state general secretary and state PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav also appeared to take a soft stand on the outfit, saying it had not been found to be involved in the Varanasi blasts and the terrorist attack in Ayodhya.

"SIMI was not found to be involved in the two main terrorist incidents in the state," Mulayam told reporters in an informal chat.

"There is, however, a Central ban on SIMI and it is being enforced in the state," he hastened to add.

State police chief Bua Singh had said on Wednesday that SIMI was under the scanner.

Besides the raids at its hideouts, notices had been issued to its absconding activists, he said. The West Bengal government too has ordered a crack down on SIMI, which was outlawed in 2001.

SP is the most prominent "secular"/castiest regional party in UP. Considering that UP is going to poll very soon, they can not afford to annoy Muslim voters....they 'll do anything to get Muslim votes with Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party not far behind. It is a party of anti-national elemets. One of its ministers recently had declared 51 Crore Rupees on the head of Danish Cartoonists, ofcourse nothing happened against him. He is still a minister. Several of his partymen have links with ISI and other anti-national agencies.

Al Qaeda surfaces in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 13 (IANS) A statement faxed to the office of a local news agency here Thursday announced the formation of Al Qaeda's Jammu and Kashmir unit.

The group's spokesperson identifying himself as Abu Al-Hadeed also phoned the Current News Service saying: 'Jammu and Kashmir Al Qaeda group has been formed with Abu Abdul Rahman Ansari as its chief.'

'Those who carried out the blasts needed to be encouraged as the bombings targeted those who had oppressed Muslims in India,' he said.

The statement 'appreciated recent serial bombings in Mumbai and expressed pleasure at the serial blasts'.

It also called upon 'Indian Muslims to rise in Jehad in favour of Islam and freedom' and said the 'objectives of the group would be made public soon as the foundation of the group had been laid today in Jammu and Kashmir'.

When asked to comment on the authenticity of the statement and whether the group announced here had any affiliation with Osama bin Laden's organisation, a senior police officer said: 'We have no comments to offer at the moment.'
