Hello everyone! :)

Now, this topic is about "respecting elders" 😛 . Now, we all..have been told, taught by our elders to "respect" our elders. ALLL of us do do that.
We all have a CODE OF CONDUCT while dealing with older folks..like -
- Wishing them with a smile :)
- Not disrespecting them by any means
- Not talking back under ANY circumstances
etc etc...you all know what I'm talking about right 😆
What do you think about such "code of conduct" ? Do you people really believe that BECAUSE they're elders, we need to conduct ourselves in a particular way? Even if they dont deserve the respect?
Coming to me, I always respect older people because they have such sentiments(want respect), and I dont like hurting their baseless emotions/making them feel uncomfortable, so, I wish them, try my best never to offend them or make them feel uncomfortable. that being said..I respect younger ones too. Even if a 14 year-old kid says nasty things to me, I dont really feel "woah, how dare you! I'm older than you! >:( " ---> which is the reaction of most of the elders when they feel dis-respected by people younger than themselves. I'm sure all you have seen such people. If you talk back to an elderly person, you are seen as a bad boy. Especially, if you live in India.. "code of conduct" with elders is extremely valued. The elders themselves too, DEMAND respect from you. They get sooo offended, they even bring in your upbringing if you by mistake even SLIGHTLY disrespect them..your image gets punctured here.
Do you really believe that respect should be on the basis of AGE? What you talk and how you talk, does/should it differ with the AGE of the person your talking to? Should one be obliged to a person older than him?? Do you people treat all elderly folks with respect? Finally, do YOU feel bad when a person younger than you talks back and does not "respect" you? 😛
Thankyou 😳 share all your views, thoughts, stories, everything on this matter!

Everyone should be respected irrespective of age. Whether someone is older than me or younger than me, I try my best to be polite and respectful. If I get upset and lose my cool, I apologize irrespective of their age.

If anyone is rude or belligerent to me, irrespective of their age, I will take offense and expect them to apologize. I will not let any human talk to me or treat me in a berating manner.

I give credibility to experience, knowledge, ability, authority, integrity, honesty etc depending on situations and never age, gender, etc and expect people to do the same to me

Ah when I was young I did not quite like most elders and the school teachers too. ( except for a few exceptional ones).
They looked like bullies to me. Maybe I never understood that we could not do what we liked and had to behave like prisoners 😆
Do this !
Study !
Do not go out and play too long !
Shut Up !
Do not jump !
Ah I never want to be a child and get pushed around.
😆

Ah once you finish your studies, it is heaven. Relaxed !
But in life we can never sit still. Little problems will crop up off and on, we just have to learn to cope. It is part and parcel of spiritual evolution of some sort.

About Respect..everybody has been taught from the very childhood, to become respectable..I think respect come through love & its a Give n take concept...Generly in the real world..If u are given respect, it is never for u bt for something else... For eg, if you are a very good man, moral, the respect is for morality, not for you... If you are very rich, u are respected for ur house and ur car or bank balance, not for you...if its disappear..respect also disappear.
and if anyone speak behind ur back......pay no mind. It just means that you are ahead of them..or when people cut u down. Or talk behind ur back,. remember they took time out of their pathetic lives,,,,,, To think about you!!!

i am a very rude person with my relatives or a few of my siblings cousins included. i dont tie rakhi to cousins now. dont talk to my relatives and now even my sister .. i have had lots of fights with lots of people.

My sister says am frustrated insde thats why i am like that, fightin with everyone

i agree to an extent bt still disagree about the fact that they deserve my rudeness

if someone like them who molest a child, call them a liar and then show their hypocrisy by mentioning their loyalty lies with family and not someone cryin abt being molested 2 yrs back or hitting her father for callin her a liar .. then they dont deserve my respect even if they are elders.

whatever you do, do it with sincerity. no need to respect anyone just for sake of it.

im dealing with this now...i have had to speak some hard truths to my parents for things they have done to others that have not been right...truth hurts and elders dont like hearing it...but one must be careful in how they talk...i think it is best if you hold a mirror to them and talk about what they did rather than how you perceive them to be...that way you are using facts rather than emotions to deal with situations...in general of course there needs to be a level of respect given as they have more life experience than you which for the most part does make a difference...
