The lag bagh Ganapati in Mumbai collected more than 12 crores as offerings during the few days of the Ganesh festival last year. This year too, there were many offerings in the form of silver and gold bricks, diamond rings, solitaires, gold crowns and cash. Counting machines are required to count all that cash. However the money is put togood use. Last years donation was used to open a dialysis centre.

As for the gold in the padmanabham temple under discussion in the current thread some fakes were discovered amongst the gold. It is suspected that someone has been replacing the real gold with fakes. Before more of it goes missing or replaced the govt ought to act fast. The Supreme Court is expected to give its ruling soon on this matter.

But I am sure it would make no difference. We all know the verdict. In India its more important to appease various religious groups by compromising the nation's future and well being. If the religious leaders ask the Government and the Law to bow, they kneel and if they ask them to kneel, they prostrate.

Once Swami Vivekananda had said,

"At Cape Comorine sitting in Mother Kumari's temple, sitting on the last bit of Indian rock—I hit upon a plan: We are so many sanyasis wandering about, and teaching the people metaphysics—it is all madness. Did not our
Gurudeva use to say, 'An empty stomach is no good for religion'? We as a nation have lost our individuality and that is the cause of all mischief in India. We have to raise the masses."

When Bengal was hit with famine and Government and the wealthy Zamindars had refused any substantial help, this man jubilantly came forward to sell off his organization - Ramkrishna Mission - to raise funds for the people. On the other hand today's religious men are more interested in pouring tons of milk on idols while India tops the list of countries with most undernourished children.🤢

Bahut sukriya Maharani ji😆

Frankly the New Churches and movements are quite a force here too and they can call the shots. Religion is getting too commercial.
Govt should tax all wealth that are surplus to the needs unless they are employed for useful purposes. But they will know how to hide the wealth overseas. Funds collected in one country should not be allowed to be transferred out perhaps. These should be regulated and controlled. I am assuming the Govt is straight, if not, there is no diff.

No opening of Kerala temple vault: Supreme Court

New Delhi, Sept 22 : The Supreme Court on Thursday said the unopened sixth vault of a Kerala temple with a possible treasure trove would remain so for now and till adequate security measures are undertaken.

The apex court said the Kerala government has assured adequate security cover for the temple.

"The expert committee should go ahead with the preservation and conservation of other vaults," said the Supreme Court.

The court has earlier also deferred opening of the vault due to security reasons.

On Sept 16, the apex court had reserved its order on opening of Vault B of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple of Thiruvananthapuram till Sept 21 based on the opinions of an expert committee, but made it clear that the order has nothing to do with the prevailing superstition that the opening of the vault will spell ill-omen.

The 16th century Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here shot into fame as the richest in the country after wealth, including jewels and gold, were found there in vaults sealed for over 150 years.

The judges said they are not anxious to break traditions but will not encourage superstition.

Earlier five vaults were opened and huge jewellery and other wealth were found inside them.

The court will give orders on the security aspects on Oct 21.

The court had earlier been critical of the astrological ritual 'Devaprasnam' performed in the temple.

The Supreme Court had set up a committee to decide on whether Secret Vault B should be opened.

While five of the six vaults were opened at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, there was a debate over opening the sixth vault due to a local superstition that if opened, it will bring bad luck.

The five-member committee formed by the Supreme Court is headed by CV Ananda Bose from the National Museum.

The vaults of the temple of Lord Vishnu were opened at the behest of the Supreme Court.

It is believed that the wealth were those that came from the royal family of Travancore.

Security of the temple has been increased significantly by the government after treasures continued to get unearthed from the old temple that had hidden these treasures for ages.

The treasure that was found in the temple included gold coins, jewels and precious stone statues of gods and goddesses curved out of solid gold and decked with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and other expensive stones, reports said.

The operation to unearth the secret vaults started after the Supreme Court order in response to a petition by a lawyer in a local court asking the state government to take over the South Indian temple dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu.
