idk if ppl read my past arguements (lol even i 4got wat i rote 😆 ) but im 2day's world it is IMPOSSIBLE for a man to do any justice to all or rather any of his wives....and therefore it is WRONG!

and as aparna di asked...i wud NEVER marry a man with 1 2 or 3 other wives or allow my husband to marry other women...itz da fact and all of u noe it....im 2 young 4 marriage (give it about 10 years 😉) but thaats the way i feel now and that is the way i will feel later on....can u imagine sharing the person u luv?...eww it sounds so gross and unacceptable

in 2day's society it is a way of putting dowm women and making men think they have more power and making it acceptable to b a player

Islam is NOT an irrational religion...when this was presrcibed the Arabs from pre-Islamic times already practived polygamy and all this did was limit it to 4 women where as before there were many more and men saw women as baby-making machines to extend their lineage and have sex 😕 ....these verses actually made the lives of women BETTER compared to what they were before. it gave women respect because a man had to treat ehr well and it limited men to 4 wives so that they wouldnt go all out and marry a dozen women (who knows men r weird)

the conditions set with polygamy made it hard for a man to fulfill them because it was meant to push people away from this practice. Allah has advised men to marry ONLY 1 WIFE and make sure he takes good care of her needs and his children's needs but in certain circumstances, it has been made permissable to marry more than 1 woman at a time but with it come a lot of responsibilities and the man is held accountable for not meeting the criteria set forth for polygamy.

ppl like 2 find loop holes arnd all rules and many men did the same with this, they justify their "player" attitiude as "it is permissible in Islam to marry up2 4 women"..this justification is COMPLETELY WRONG and these men will be held accountable for thier misdeeds


I dont noe frm research but frm personal xperience tht this practice is becoming less common in modern society....in the past 16 years ive never met or heard of any1 in a polygamious (is tht a word? 😕 ) relitionship (with the xception of tv of course 😆)

enuff said abt this and as 4 purdah....as ive said b4...i support it if it is done willingly...nothing shud b forced upon ne1 and the same goes 4 purdah if women want 2 do it gr8 and if not gr8 itz der life der body der choice wat is it 2 da men

Very well said Jav . I was wondering how common is it in the Muslim society these days .

I personally know of only one such person . My ex- big big boss . M.D of a multi national is a Muslim and has 2 wives . One wife was always for show for the Office /organisation and we met her often for Office parties . While the other wife , i believe he took her to private partieswhere there were no Office people . I believe he lived with the younger wife, and his older wife got the "izzat"/respect in the Society as his wife . We never saw the second wife , but frequently met the first.

I think it was awfull and sad for both women . I think a woman deserves both respect as a man's wife and also his personal time, love ,money etc etc .

Polygamy was practiced in the olden times, there were wares and kings had all the time in the world to indulg in leisure. Historically the purdah system came with the MUghals it caught up with the Hindus as well.
Laws ensured Hindus marry only once, but most do it on the sly. anyway maybe they want variety, there are tribes in HP and Uttaranchal where women too do the same thing. some liberation Hey!

purdah - not only in Islam but in Hinduism, Judaism and Christianity too. it shouldnt mean keeping women in one corner of the home but keeping them safe frm harm of men.

polygamy - hindu gods like shiv shankar bhole, subramaniyam had more than 1 wife at a time. judeo-christian prophets like Moses and Solomon (peace be upon them) had many wives too.

no religion has kept upper limit except Islam, and thats 4.

Hindu god Shiva had only one wife - that wife , Shakti , she had different forms and names . We call her Gauri , Parvati ,Kali , Durga etc etc .........they are all 108 names and avatars .

Please note this isn't an attack on any religon . But the concept of polygamy whether its practised by Muslims , by some tribal Hindus sects ,or certain sects of Christianity like i mentioned Mormons is wrong because it suppresses women and has no benifit for a woman ........its rather abusing women emotionally !!

Also what the gods and Prohpets did Centuries ago .........those things do not have relevance any more . Whether we talk about Prohpet Mohammad who had more than 1 wife( may have had some relevance in his time) . Or we talk about Lord Krishna who was a flirt ,or Lord Rama who abandoned his wife Sita because a washer man accused her. These things are O.K when gods or Prohpets did it . But holds no justification for a common man in this Century to either keep more than one wife , flirt with dozens of women , or abandon his wife on the basis of some senile persons words.

No offense to any devout Hindu out there , i love my gods too , but i will admit our Gods were never perfect !!


If those things done in this century , it amounts to abuse towards women !!!!!

dear aparna , aj kal k zamane main it's difficult to handle one wife 4 tu koi bhi nahi kersakta , aur her zamane k alag taqaze huty hain as u ve said dat too, ab jis k sath huta hai wo behter apni feelings bata sakta hai lekin yah tu obvious hai k koi female sharing nahi berdasht kersakti aur husband ki tu namumkin hai inspite of dat, women all ova da world tolerate such behaviour frm men of every cast ,color n creed cuz of their own reasons , as far as Islam is concerned permission of more than 1 marriage stops those xtra marital affairs lyk if a married man has an affair he can marry dat gal instead of ving illicit relationship or intead of changing his or her religion cuz sum religion doesnt allow 2nd marriage he can marry again n dis is jus one example bt I will ask sum authoratative person on Islam n than i will xplain da proper reasons of this permission cuz in Islam no law is against man or woman.I lyk da way u lighten da intensity of this topic n I appreciate ur patience n attitude.
