Ok, so there has been this raging debate over a Mumbai nurse called "Aruna Shanbaug", who is in a pathetic condition. There have pleas of "Mercy Killing", or "Euthanasia" in this case.

The Supreme Court had to say this in regards to this case :-

So, the question is, is Euthanasia a "boon" or a "bane" ??

Should a person in this condition (as in the case of Aruna) be allowed to suffer anymore ? Isn't it really heart wrenching to see a person suffer like that ? I have seen some pics of her on TV, and it's really bad. So, in this case, isn't "Euthanasia" just being more HUMAN towards her ??

But look at the other side:- If she is given mercy killing, don't you think there were be misuse of Euthanasia in future ?

And lastly, do you agree with the court's decision about "Passive Euthanasia being permissible"?
I mean, what's the use ? Active, passive..the end result is the same. Don't you think this passive thing is just being sadist ??

Let the Family decide based on Doc recommendations.
But there are cases of patients coming back when life support systems were pulled out.
I believe in active euthanasia.
Everyone wants some dignity in life or in death.

Do you really think its worth keeping her alive ?
A person who does not know if she will come back to life is bearing the pain since last 37 yrs. Will the family of the law makers/followers want to see their own family member to live life like this? A question that is hard to answer...If we have a similar person in our family then we pray God to reliee his/her pains soon. Why our constitution does not permit case based mercy killing!
Another question is ,Did the boy learned a lesson after seven years .This review is more important to for saving life of others. As the helpless person is living measuarbly for 37 years in this world .and We donot want to see more helpless people again due to such acts...
Just think about her feeling or what is going on in her mind? She must be praying to God for her death each second....our laws for mercy killing should be amended and mercy killng it should be given in exceptional circumstances like this. plz god make her free from all the humiliation which she is facing.

^^^ That I think is just what I am saying. I think the person should be relieved of suffering. It's just being human.

But the court talks about Euthanasia being misused. In fact, one doctor said that India as a country cannot handle Euthanasia. I am yet to comprehend what sense it makes.

people dont have right to die.. sometimes death can be presented as a treatement medically warranted.. pain is veri subjective.. no one should make judgments on someone else's pain and put forth that as a basis for mercy killing...
The case becomes strong when the family has to bear the monetary burden but even then the situation is no different than living with a sick person
Mercy killing will be misused more often than not..just like knowing the gender of the baby at 16 weeks.. that led to so many early abortions of girl child.. i think euthanasia needs the kind of maturity we lack big way....in india. and other asian countries...
so no one has right to die.. unless they were born out of their own desire!!!

Even when the person is not able to communicate her thoughts ? What if she is feeling the same thing ? The decision is best left with the family of the patient. Nobody would like to see one of their loved ones going through such pain...

& besides, we all have a basic idea of what "pain" is. Enough to understand what is bearable and what is not...

Aruna Shanbaug was raped in 1973 and has been in a vegetative state for over 37 years.

I was flicking channels yesterday when I saw on Star News a large group of nurses out on the street screaming out loud in excitement after the verdict on the case. They seemed ecstatic that Aruna Shanbaug is now forced by law to continue living her life the way she has been for the last 37 years where she is not in a coma, yet she has no awareness of what is going around her due to brain damage. What exactly were they celebrating? Were they celebrating how she will continue to spend the rest of her life in such a state? If so, I would love to wipe that disgusting smile off their faces. It disturbs me that those people were distributing sweets out after hearing the verdict. IMO they may as well have stood in front of Ms Shanbaug and laughed in her face instead of distributing sweets and what not.

Btw, does anyone else find it weird that the same place that she was raped (KEM hospital) is the same place where she has been a patient for the last 37 years! What a perfect way to make her relive those memories in that same hospital where she was brutally raped. Absolutely disgusted by all the celebrations that went on and extremely disappointed with the verdict!

I have absolutely no idea what Aruna Shanbaug must be going through but I don't see how living in such a state for so many years can be a pleasant event by any means. I can't even begin to imagine the torture she must go through every day of her life.

O.M.G !!
I didn't know about that. That's so horrible..I feel for the lady. Why were the nurses celebrating ? Did they hear it wrong or something ? Lol...! They are nurses for God's sake, they should understand the pain more than anybody else !!! Jeezzz ! As disgusting as hell.
Or maybe you can say, they don't want her to die. I mean, they have been caring for her since so many years, so maybe they are just waiting for a miracle (from God) or something ? Maybe they are waiting for something good ? Who knows ? Just trying to be a lil' fair here..although I am disgusted.

In this case Aruna has the right to die and Supreme court can't just deny to her just coz in future this power might be misused. Aruna had been vegetative state for past 37 years. 37 years. Enough with her agony. Let her atleast die in peace.
