Software engineer kills wife, chops body into pieces in Dehradun

ITGD Bureau | Dehra Dun, December 12, 2010 | Updated 22:56 IST

In a gruesome incident, a software engineer allegedly killed his wife, cut the body into pieces and hid it in a deep freezer for nearly two months in Dehra Dun, police said on Sunday.

The incident came to light when brother of the 33-year-old victim Anupama Gulati on Saturday lodged a police complaint after he did not get satisfactorily reply from the engineer about his sister's whereabouts.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested Anupama's husband Rajesh (37), who hailed from Delhi, from his rented accommodation at Prakash Vihar area in Dehra Dun ton Sunday. During interrogation, he confessed to have murdered his wife on October 17, police said.

According to Dehra Dun SSP G S Martolia, Rajesh banged Anupama's head against a wall following a quarrel after which she fell unconscious. Later, he strangulated her in a fit of rage, cut the body into pieces and stashed them into a deep freezer.

In the meantime, Rajesh told his two twin kids -- aged four years -- that their mother had gone to Delhi. He also told Anupama's brother Sujan that his relations with her had improved. However, Sujan grew suspicious and came to Dehra Dun yesterday to inquire about his sister.

The couple had settled down in Dehra Dun 18 months ago after returning from the United States.

What could have turned a professional educated person into a murderer? 😕
Could it have been prevented?
What do you feel went wrong?

It was all over the news channels

The neighbours expressed surprise as the guy was a very well behaved and soft spoken type. His father was shocked and says his son must have been driven to desperation to do that. The couple had differences even while they were in the US and they had gone for counselling as the there was domestic violence involved.
The guy had lost his job in US during the recession and returned to India. The wife had been unable to take up a jb in US as she was on spouse visa and they often had a quarrel over it.
The girls parents had been against their marriage .
Looks quite complicated !

Sad but I think nothing affects me anymore, especially not after what happened in Noida a couple of years ago. It's stupid, but I think that's one of the reasons I never wanna go to Noida. The way the entire situation was uncovered, how children were sexually abused and killed as they'd walk by was and still is too much for me to take in.

There were pictures in the news all over India. Sad to think that such things still happen..not just in India but all over the world.

This is so sad! I don't what's happening to the people of the world. Day after more and more stories like this come up everywhere. Not only in India or US, but across the world. Very sad. Very sad! All I can say is, to be killed in such a horrible way is sooo upsetting to the spirit I believe.

This person probably started out having depression over losing his job, then he would take it out on his wife. She would also get upset at his ways, and then she'd fight back. The fighting probably escalated to domestic abuse by her husband. I don't know what makes people crack so badly that they'd abuse their spouse, and that too murder them to cruelly.

Makes me feel bad inside when I hear such things. I guess we can just pray and hope that one day the world will be safe and pure again, but I don't think that will happen.

He must be mentally unstable to CHOP the body of his wife into pieces, who does that?! Not an average human with a heart and brains.
Could it have been prevented?
What kind of a question is this? OFCOURSE it could have been prevented. Who does such inhuamne demonic things?
What do you feel went wrong?
Ofcourse the husband killing his wife in such a petrifying way. I wonder what kind of a human he is, he's not fit to be called one.

Ordinarily a person maybe fine but sometimes in anger or in certain situations one is hopelessly carried away and will do things that are totally irrational.
same thing with drinking, gambling or other addictions. The brain competely shuts down and one is carried away, only to regret later.
this problem has to be identified and isolated.

While condemning the attrocious and heinous act, Can we think that it is time to teview our marriage act... which is turning out to be an unbearable and unescapable bondage between a wife and husband.......rather than a useful and sweet relationship. Can we really say that we are democratic? who is concerned about freedom of everybody.... feels extremely sad about such incidents.

This makes me wonder when should a woman walk out of an abusive relationship? When to decide enough is enough so that such drastic endings can be prevented.

I don't know the details of this case yet but I have been catching up on Law & Order - SVU these days. This world is a messed up place.
