Actually next time when you sit and watch TV or meet people in real life, notice certain People call India/Bharat as "Hindustan". And if you start observing it emerges as a pattern with a certain group of people. But if you notice rarely anyone calls it Bharat.
It might be a better shot to get ourselves called as "Hindustan" than Bharat. The arguments againt the both the names is the same. Same group of people coming up with the same tired argument.
The people who object to the names are
1. Who have gotten used to the name India: Actually the same people used to do potty/peepy everywhere in the household when they were little but when taught got used to the fact of using the "Toilet" for the purpose. So you know if you force the change, they will learn. Afterall how many households you know where people use their living room as a toilet😉.
2. People who think India is a more secular name: Those people should not be bothered about, they automatically change when the wind direction changes, they whine, but they are whiners
3. People who will object on the grounds of religion: See you cut that group into half if you choose the name "Hindustan" Instead of India.(this way you cut the opponents into half)
The reason why I suggest "Hindustan" instead of Bharat, the group that will resist you in name change, many of them actually call India as Hindustan. So you will get 2 outcomes, they will change themselves or they will accept the change

One does not mind (me for sure) Hindustan or Bharat. I know where and how Bharat came from but regarding Hindustan, all I can make out is by splitting it as Hindu + Sthan = Hindustan. I may be wrong but if anyone can elaborate on what and how Hindustan came into existance.
While ont he two names, I still feel and grasp that Bharat is more secular as compared to Hindustan, without actually getting into any controversy of secularism or reginalism.
We also do say....always...
Bharat Mata ki Jai
though
we end with...
Jai Hind (ustan?)

Qwerts, I thought your marathi was better than this, man!
Angie translated - Qwety , tuza boot kuthe geyla ? boot uchal ani aplya dokyawar mar

You said it should be - appli padatrane kuthe aahet baruh, dokyawar marun ghyavishi wattat

Both have similar context. Angie is simple straightforward though. You, on the other hand, try to be an advanced speaker but messed up big time.

Basic line from me was - Qwerty where is your boot, pick it up and hit your head with it.

I am not sure about aapli, incorrect context here. If you wanted to give yourself respect, it would be tumchya. (tu = tu, tumhi = aap). I have never heard padatrane before, seems to be a word for boot. But then, I never claim to be an expert on marathi. Chappal or paduka which is more common would be appropriate or even kolhapuri which is such a common marathi colloquial.
Now, let's proceed to the next part. Baruh? WTH, do you mean --- did you mean bhau? In that case it should be "bapu"😆
Instead of 'hit your self on the head', you tried twisting it to 'I want to hit myself on the head'. But it should not be wattat, the correct tense here would be wattay. So, I'll just pretend the "I" there is you talking of and to yourself😆 Ab batao madrasi kaun - tum ya angie😆

Motha aala ithe sarvana marathi shivayla marathi cha m suddha tyala mahit nahi.
Once again --- majhya tumchya julta tara madhur suranchya barasti dhara 😆

btw, you mentioned Latur in one of your posts. Latur was hit by that earthquakes couple of weeks after we landed in Pune. The tremors were felt in Pune too but somehow we slept through them.
On a serious note, I wouldn't wish Latur on anyone, qwerts. I still remember the devastation caused by that earth quake.

@Gauri & Qwerty - are you both going to be discussing your language skills all this thread?

Either way in Marathi we use Bharat and Bhartiya - not India or Indians. I'm still confused as to why an official name has to be made official.

If Bharat and India both are official names then why hasnt Pakistan or Bangladesh got an alternate 'angrezi name' for the firangies.
Is it that Bharat was known as Bharat and goras named it India for their (convenience) sake...which means, sooner or later Yankees will name Pakistan by some firnagi name, now that their presence is increasing in Pak.
The day is not far when we hear from across the 'Friendly Neighborhood'....

They are different countries. Some countries have anglicized names (Deutscheland, Espana, Polska) some don't. And as you illustrated not having an anglicized name will not prevent foreigners from coming up with worse derogatory concoctions.

Also the topic starter themselves say that English speakers can use India, and only Indians must adapt Bharat. I don't get the purpose of making people who already use Bharat in their respective tongues use Bharat.
