IF is the only baffling place where basic internet courtesy and expectations are flipped over, and multiple identities achieve some sort of heroic status instead of being downright discouraged as a serious violation of conduct.
In the real world people who assume multiple identities are either insane or criminal, or criminally insane. It is done by people who have serious illnesses that prevent them from having proper self identity or by deviants who have to do something wrong in the down low. I don't think the virtual world should be different. There maybe differences between virtual and real worlds, but I do not feel basic ethics and common courtesy changes values.
Personally, I have never had an MID and never will. I have been Return_To_Hades on various forums, in various places for ages now. Most of my family knows that my online moniker is Return_To_Hades. While my personality as RTH maybe different, I am a very transparent person and do not feel the need to hide behind any other identity in real or virtual world. I am also proud that I have never been banned or warned or given a stern rap on the wrist for any reason online.
Why people feel the need to have another identity, I will never understand. Self identity is very important to me and I do not get how people can so easily disrespect their self identity for any reason foul or nice. Is it not sad when people feel that they need to be someone else for any reason? Is it not sad when people feel that they cannot have fun, be carefree, express their opinion, or speak their mind as themselves? It is not cool, fun or awesome in any way, but really really sad when people cannot be themselves. I am sorry fun or not, or whatever reason, I simply cannot respect anyone's need to be someone else. To me this is a need only for the criminal or the insane. Ordinary people are themselves, and darned secure and proud to be themselves.
As for suspecting multiple identities - what is wrong in that. Multiple identities are considered wrong in basic internet conduct. Most websites and forums prohibit multiple identities. Some people maybe content turning a blind eye when something wrong is done, but some people call out when something wrong is done. Simple as that. Can't retaliate against whistle blowers for calling things out.
I myself have been suspected as an MID (SVCG). Yes, it was hurtful and upsetting because identity is important to me. But thats fine, people thought someone sounded like me, they made a fair guess. At least Summer3 was graceful enough to admit it and apologize. I'm still wondering who the rest of the spineless people are who don't have the backbone to man up to their own mistakes. I have more respect for people who blow the whistle and admit they did something, rather than people can't admit to simple things.
And some MID suspicions can be downright bizarre. For example Middy also claimed that she was suspected for being an MID of SVCG. Any fool knows that Middy does not use that kind of language or vocabulary and probably wouldn't in a thousand years. Whats even more bizarre is all these accusations and insinuations with even the accusers and accused can be unknown mysteries.
Bottom line is MIDs are not just against forum policies, but against common courtesy too. MIDs also create an atmosphere of suspicion and frustration. Posting on a forum is a privilege, not a right and it ought not be abused this way. Most online forums are taking stringent actions against MIDs, some even making their forums pay to post, so that ordinary people do not have to bear the brunt of people with the compulsive need to not be themselves. I've even suggested to admins of this forum that one surefire way to limit this nonsensical MID especially the malicious abusers like gulshan gobar and all the ones that pop up in II forum is to make IF a pay-to-post forum. That should make people realize that they have a privilege, not a right to do as they wish. Oh well, wishful thinking for now.
