Making it illegal isn't going to solve anything in the long run. People will still go for it, except that now it will become even more dangerous given that people will go for illegal abortions, which can cost them their lives along with their unborn child[ren]. Many may even take suicide as an easy way out, if they happen to be single mothers, especially in places like India. Oh damn it, this wasn't supposed to be a debate on abortion.

I'm trying to be good and not steer this into the typical abortion debate. I know POH.

This is a crime & punishment thread, so lets talk crime and punishment. If abortion should not be legal then abortion is then illegal. That means abortion is a crime. If someone commits a crime, there is a punishment.

So when women get illegal abortions what should the charge and punishment be?
I am assuming murder, since that is the basis on which people say abortion should not be legal. So the punishment also should be like that of murder. Usually murder is charged based on degree. So I am guessing the degrees should be set by trimester of abortion. So would I be wrong in saying late term abortion means life sentence?

Also who is the murderer and who is the accomplice? The woman or the doctor? What about spouses or family involved?

What about women who attempt to self abort and put their own lives in danger? Will they be held culpable for murder/suicide?

Its an interesting thought. I think many of us have an opinion on abortion being a crime or not, but not many have thought of what should be done if it was illegal and a crime. Most people also tend to focus on the doctor, ignoring that it is the mother choosing the abortion not a doctor forcing abortion.

The debate is about which is the worst crime not the worst trauma.. so your last para is kind of irrelevant.. though quite meaningful. but the Krazy troll is going to turn you over to FBI for criminal tendencies.. for not criticizing a crime like rape all the way..😆

oopsie! I hit "like" by mistake on your post, qwerty.

This should be the form that other posters on these forums could use, if they were ever harassed by you (two) and/or possess messages that are soliciting in nature and/or witnessed you (two) promoting/abetting criminal activities.

Can we file a complaint if we have enough proof on a predator visiting IF repeatedly and hiding behind various IDs - some MIDs and some new ones after getting banned? Problem is they spoof their IP address and hence escape the administrators of this site.
The exact same writing pattern is all over the place though along with some other support proving their motives for being here.

You have most certainly failed in your attempts at being good. 😆 It has been quite a while since we had our last abortion debate. As we have so many new member around, I don't think it will be a bad idea to have another one, in a new thread (though I can already sense most members rolling their eyes out 😆). Besides, there are a few things that we haven't touched upon before, like gender-based abortion.

This is a crime & punishment thread, so lets talk crime and punishment. If abortion should not be legal then abortion is then illegal. That means abortion is a crime. If someone commits a crime, there is a punishment.

I think having an abortion is more than enough punishment for most mothers (though I know many would disagree here). Though, if it is a crime, then there ought to be a legal punishment attached to it. What about countries where abortion is illegal? What happens when these incidences are exposed to the public (like with celebs)? I have never seen anyone being punished through a legal sentence - so why really make it a crime on the first place? Either punish the criminals or legalize the act. This seems like those show-off laws.

So when women get illegal abortions what should the charge and punishment be?

I don't think it is fair to label abortion as 'murder'. By definition, murder means ending a life of a person. Whether fetuses could be termed as living beings equivalent to us human beings or not is still debatable. As such, we cannot say it with conviction that abortion is murder.

Also who is the murderer and who is the accomplice? The woman or the doctor? What about spouses or family involved?

If it is a crime, then all parties should be punished. I don't know what that punishment should be though. It's an extremely weird scenario where we have to punish a mother, father, family members for what they have done to their unborn child. 😕

And in most cases, we leave the father out, as if he is completely out of the picture.

Interesting! Did he (the reporter) intentionally choose people who don't support abortion? Either way, most seem to have no opinions in this issue and gave a black look when asked the question.

Fraud destroys family and potentially many familiies, Harshad Mehta scam drove quite many people to suicide and many more towards hardships.
Wall street scams have driven educated people towards prostitution and stripping.
the number of people these crimes hit is far more than the crime of a Rape or a murder which is a person or a family(not trying to reduce the impact of the crime)
second choice would be Drug business. All major cities have hundred of people getting their lives destroyed due to this
For me the biggest crime(not on the list) is incitement and opportunism.
A political leaders career was at stake, her husband was caught up in bribery scandal. On Jan 19th 1990 she went on a publicily television addressed and implored for cleansing of a region. Since then 50,000 people have been killed, Thousands of women have been raped, millions have been displaced, crores and crores of money of wealth has been wasted.
there are many who fit this crime in India alone, to name a few, Modi, Abu Azmi, Mulayam, Jagdish Tytler, Varun Gandhi, Bal Thackeray, Shahbuddin, Praveen Togadia. L.K. Advani, the only punishment should be death

Take it from a philosophical perspective. The biggest crime we do in our lives is nothing. That is when we see all sorts of wrong around us but choose to be mute spectators. When we could have done right, when we could have fixed things - but did nothing.

The better half likes children. I'm trying to be compassionate and loving. Any more abortion debates, and I shall give the PC 'no comment' 😆

Right now lets discuss abortion as the crime and what its punishment should be. Thats relevant here.

Touche. 😆

Doing nothing and being ideal all day long also leads to people having/experiencing negative thoughts, which may turn into actual crimes one day.

The product, abortion, is skillfully marketed and sold to the woman at the crisis time in her life. She buys the product, finds it defective and wants to return it for a refund. But, it's too late.-Carol Everett
