friends, im opening a topic today about an issue that is hogging the national headlines for some time now. its the highly contentious and debated issue of 33% reservation for women in the Parliament seats....some backed it saying that the move would empower the fairer sex and grant them more reprsentation in national politics and help them be a part of the policymaking operations in the country....while others opposed it saying that it was unfair to grant quota on the basis of Gender..
so i wanna know what r YOUR thought on this? Are you in favour or against this move?

Well why not, if the women have the time to spare and are fully dedicated. Afterall most men have also turned the economy upside down. I would not make it hard and fast to say one third, but there should be adequate representation. Best is as system of meritocracy; but in real life there is always a bias against women. But these days things are changing and women have been taking on a greater role.

NOPE.........I do not support reservation of any kind.........for anybody except maybe for the handicapped..............a woman who needs reservation to get into the parliament won't be a fighter..........we need someone who gets into the parliament..........to fight for the people....to fight for the right cause.........not someone who will need the crutches of reservation..........those who can make it ....make it without reservation.........

Reservation for women will just become another PAWN in the hands of the corrupt politicians..........who wants that.......not me atleast....

Meritocracy is best, but I see often women are pushed to the background. In Singapore reservations are not made but they are given a few seats in Parliament too. after careful selection.

how can one be "pushed to the background" if they r determined and have it in them to make an impresion?
all the women leaders we have had until now...they came of their own merit and not reservation.
im dead against this move, dunno why many support it.😕

In India I guess politics has come a long way but still in certain states I believe it is all male dominated. In some countries women are treated as non existent. Same used to happen in Japan and in some Middleeast countries.

Indian society always for empowerment of woman..I dont think common people against this bill..Mulayam, and Lalu are part of the problem. Becos of whom people of UP and Bihar are suffering. Even after 60 years, we still keep talk about caste. What they have given to Dalits, OBC, and Monorities.. Atleast Nitish did excellent job. Lalu and Mulayam are no not relevant now...But its also true that there are many laws are there to save our women , impliment them first,Act first..thats importent..

I believe the "reservations" can create only islands of prosperity. That does not mean empowering the entire women/religion or caste!!
Good luck for the W-Bill...happy womens day!😊

but still.......i dont think that a Bill can empower women solely...rather it would mean more pawns in the hands of corrupt politicians like blue-ice said....
also9, more women in the parliament would NOT neccessarily mean more power to women in general, the women MPs might just be as patriarchal in their mindsets as their male counterparts.
whatever it is, reservation slows progress.😛
