That's an interesting concept to think about, especially because of its complexity!

In Mauritius, it's never been harder to move between these different classes. Not because people can't, but because the gap widening at the same time seems even further when you reach one boundary. Yet people never got rid of the "do or die" spirit, and I must say that's commendable. We've always been a tight economy, small in essence, where you either got to prove your capacities if you're amongst the elite, or you've got enough "contacts". Moving between the classes, the higher way of course, has never been a problem if you've been closely related to anyone from or after an MP! yeah if ur a classy but poor person, you can become rich and move up society easily lol

On the other hand, I think it's becoming tougher to cross these mostly because a petty certificate equates to almost nothing these days. You've got to be smart, striking and extremely flexible. You've got to know you're the best of the lot, and be able to prove it once you're taken. agreed!

Also, I think moving in between classes is not so easy. Say I win 20 million rupees in a lottery tomorrow, (yeah let's hope! 😆), I may move up in my account size, but not necessarily in class in society. Class is something that's inculcated in you as soon as you're born, or at last takes up years in having. That's what I feel. A born-prince has certain taught-out mannerisms, diction and different level of behavior that a beggar becoming a millionaire wouldn't, couldn't have at a go! That's the difference people need to recognize. The early 18th century in France stressed a lot on this fact: "the difference between being a "bourgeois" and becoming one!" 😉 oh i will act like a rich tyrant who lives in his castle and kills people from above! 😈

Today in India lot of ppl R doing much better than the previous generation either due to higher studies or better opportunities. Sports & entertainment industry has catapulted some to instant stardom. Politics is one field where one can attain quick money & fame (neg more than pos though) 😆

yes, it's easier to go from rich to poor....that's what casinos are for😉 On the other hand, if Luck favors you, then you can win millions and then the transition from poor to rich gets easier....however, on a general basis, casinos favor my first case.

Gengu.... 🤗

Yup you can, but will you actually have the same class? I mean at least at first. It would be quite a feat getting out of the poor mentality in the very first place! Wouldn't it?

Interesting topic. One of the books I have placed in my bathroom library is a collection of New York Times editorial articles called "Class Matters". The premise of the book is that people in USA believe that this is the land of opportunity. People can achieve anything with hard work, and that class structure is not rigid.

However, when New York Times conducted a study they found that class is very relevant in shaping people's education, income, lifestyle and beliefs and they are not as fluid as we believe them to be. The book is an interesting collection of stories from people representing different classes in America from the rich Northeastern WASPS who own their own islands to illegal immigrants working night shifts at diners for low wages and no opportunities.

if you're a poor person with a rich mentality, ie, knowing everything abt the rich and agreeing with their life style, then no, its easy .. but the answer is yes for someone who overdoes or underplays his behavior! 😆

so glad ur SAT's went well 🤗 hope you get a really high score..
