This does not seem like the same show I fell in love with! I hope it picks up again! Everything right now seems phoney, even the chemistry is not the same! Sonarika is looking phoney and to some extent so is shaheer! And like I don't want to criticise but Sonarika's makeup at times is too gaudy and it does not look good at all!

This post is not intended to hurt anyone. This is my perspective based on what I have seen and understood so far.

Salim is shown as a very emotional person from the beginning of the series. The flashback of Mann Bai being his best friend is very telling from my perspective. When Anarkali entered his life Mann Bai probably had just left his life. He who craved that friendship transferred it from Mann Bai to Anarkali. He saw both Mann Bai and Anarkali as same his friend who cares for him.

But with circumstances he had to go away for 12 yrs and live a soldiers life. In all that time he was angry with his family while was only happy with Anarkali. He did not return to Agra in a good frame of mind. He was still angry with his whole family while considering only Anar as his well wisher. He called it "love and forced Anarkali to accept it. Once that happened, he both cooled and calmed down significantly. With his becoming normal, he started to gel more and more with both Akbar and Jodha. His is no longer just an angry young man who believes in rebellion. He is becoming the man that Akbar hoped him to be. He is taking his princely duties more seriously and trying to fulfill it so that both Akbar and Jodha are proud of him.

Anarkali grew up in Agra palace. Although Jodha treated her with love, she was still reminded of her place almost all the time. She knew she was a kaneez and she accepted it. When Salim first told that he loves her, she couldn't accept it because of this class difference. She knew that she would never be accepted as "Mallika begum of Salim. With his constant repetition of his love, where he was ready to kill himself for her, she finally accepted her love for him. But she was still aware of the truth regarding their class difference. As time passed, especially with his attentions and the care he showed, she has been quickly becoming enthralled with the idea of becoming Mallika. She is losing her grip on reality and hoping that her (Salim's) dream comes true. She looks unreal because she feels like she is living an unreal life. She is now hoping that Salim tells about their relationship to Akbar and Jodha and that she gets to be Salim's "Mallika.

Salim in his place is trying to be two people at the same time the stately prince and Anarkali's lover. He still loves her dearly. But is no longer turning his back on his family or their expectations.

Enter Mann Bai who is his "friend. If my assumption is right, Jodha will be very happy with Salim's choice' as she sees it. With Jodha revealing how happy she is that Salim chose Mann Bai as his Mallika to Anarkali, Anar will be forced to come out of her dreamland. She will then start struggling with her love for Salim and her duty to Jodha.

We will see a lot of misunderstandings and drama. Much Kuch Hota Hai comes to mind with this triangle that is about to form. 😆 😆 😉

The acting that is shown is deliberate. 😊

Salim calls Anarkali Jaan e Salim. But in history, after Akbar rejected their love, Anarkali vanished, but Salim moved on. He got married, had kids, ruled the Mughal empire etc. In Romeo Juliet, once Romeo sees Juliet dead, he finds it hard to continue and so kills himself. If Anarkali was what he has been saying then Salim had to be something similar to Romeo and lose his life or at least his will to live. But Salim does nothing of the sort. That is where I made the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai reference. In that Rahul and Anjali are best friends before Tina came into the picture. In one of the scenes, Tina tells her father that she feels like she came between two friends, two lovers. In her last letter to her daughter, she reiterates the same thing saying that Rahul and Anjali were soulmates and she had intruded in that.

Here is the parallel is Mann Bai was his best friend before Anarkali. If Mann Bai was still in Agra, chances are Salim might not have taken to Anarkali as much as he did. He was surrounded by people who were trying to harm him, even kids(Daniyal and Murad) who were not genuine with him. Anarkali filled the place that Mann Bai had vacated.

Next thing is the version of Salim that fell in love with Anarkali. It was the angry young man, a soldier, who didn't consider himself as part of the royal family. One who rejected his place in that royal family. He was constantly shown to disregard everyone including Akbar and Jodha, reject every expectation. But as he has started to assimilate into his role as the royal prince, he is torn in his role. Anarkali expects the common man in him as he was when he first confessed his love. Salim too is trying to be that person with her. But unfortunately, the crown prince role in him is becoming dominate and taking over his personality. He no longer is just that soldier or angry young man who is with Anarkali. Hence we feel a sort of pretend love from his side.

Initially Anarkali knew her place, that she was the "kaneez". She played that part with conviction. As she started to fall more and more in love with Salim, she has started to buy into his dream of her becoming the "Mallika". She has started to feel herself as part of royal family, as one of them. The makers are using the gaudy makeup to show this belief of Anarkali. She cannot really be shown walking around with tons of jewelry as that would become too obvious for others, but makeup is like a mask. She considers herself equal to the royal family. In other words is trying to be someone who she is not. Whether we like it or not, the class difference played a huge role in those times. Mann Bai can order for things and jewels, but not Anarkali. She couldn't say "do you know who I am" to others.

I feel what they are showing is needed for the story to continue. They are trying to show that Anarkali was Salim's greatest infatuation and Mann Bai was his true love.

wow shaavi amazing analysis👏 i too agree with you shaavi abt that infactuation part bcoz if salim was so truely and strongly loved anar defnitely he could have refused to live..he could have killed himself like romeo, but he happily married 20 times then how come it was true love as per dem-sa its infactuation and also the rejection of family members made salim to become close with anarkali😕

even if that theory is correct, then the characterisation should change and that too gradually, here acting is the problem, especially yesterday, today was still better, alas I am not going to try and argue with fangirls, whatever! Salim and Anarkali is a fictional story and it is supposed to be intense and beautiful! And I am also blaming the haphazard writing just as much as the acting, I saw a bigger dip in Sonarika's performance though!

That is big mistake makers of this show did in first place

Anarkali a kaneez could never be a childhood friend of Salim practically, usually his friends would be ministers sons or kings sons and cousins only otherwise same class

But here Salim friends include anarkali a maid daughter and Man bai a princess. Maan bai is also his cousin sister which anarkali has no realtion with him at all.

Now if he had met anarkali as adult and loved her we could understand his love as an audience

But here both Man Bai and anarkali are his childhood friends and later one his lover and another his wife, anarkali saved his life so hes indebted to her and hence may be loves her while Maan bai is his cousin so he likes her

If Akbar forces him to marry Maan bai will he hate her or avoid her? How? because shes his childhood friend too like anarkali and his cousin sister his blood relation

Anarkali is hallucinating may be how can she ever think she will be Mallika e hind? That was usually given to royal princess only. Humayun and Akbar too had low class ladies as cocubbines and wife etc they never were Malika e Hind. Society will not accept it will they? Look at Nur Jahan how much resistance she faced. If aroyal princess wife behaves commandinly and dominating like Nur Jahan may be ppl would not object to it.

Lets see how they take it forward
