Actually no, Lakshmi, bcos Salim has been portrayed as a guy who has only received affection form Anar all his life (from his perception). basically, the word love is associated with Anar, where Salim is concerned. It was just a matter of realizing that, for him. And he is a possessive guy, that also they have shown. So when he sees her status as kaneez, which means , she cud be easy prey to many plus given that he has lost his mother's love at an early age, it makes sense to me that he wants to keep Anar close to himself by asking her to be his love as soon as he realizes he has feelings for her.
I am guessing that the slap makes him realize that he thinks abt Anar diff bcos as a Rakkasa, she is expected to dance but he is unable to accept that. So he reacts by slapping her, then starts figuring why the hell it bothered him so much when Firdaus dancing did not make an iota of diff, leading to his understanding that Anar is not just dost. From that realization to professing love shld not take time for a man like Salim who is impulsive and used to getting his way. He wud expect that Anar wud also immdtly be on board, which I hope is not going to happen tho Anar might have feelings for him. Salim is the rebel here Not Anar so she wud know that the Kaneez- Shahzada equation is not going to go down well with folks 😆

Lakshmi, what u said abt the Aruna Irani track yet, yes I fully agree. It was rather disruptive.
I know most pp loved the meeting scene but for me, the Salim- Murad- Daniyal scene was much more impactful bcos it showed the change in equation between Salim and the brothers now.

Proposal after first meeting
In 21st century so modern world men will not dare propose so fast

That was 15th century very conservative, how can Salim propose so fast?

Did he fall in love with her letters or her childhood character, ppl are different in childhood and as adults.

May be Salim has remained the 9-10 year old only in his mind thats why hes behaving like one

But all others have grown up and matured be it Akbar, Mahabhat or anrkali

I think that IS true to some extent. Salim IS still the child he was in some ways, he expects things to go his way all the time or gets upset. There is a constant clash between the bachcha Salim and the adult Salim in his mind. We saw that in the Jodha scene where Salim does crave her affection but then suddenly realizes he is grown up and 'should not' give in to emotions. He was not allowed to live his childhood like normal kids do so somewhere he still is growing up perhaps?

I think Salim is having post traumatic stress and depression effects of going to war at very young age

Adults themselves have many psychology impact after seeing voilence in war
Kids may be having even more greater impact

Thats why minimum age of joining an army was and is 16 years

Even in 15th century i have read in historical articles that army soldiers were not less than 15-16 year olds. And 15-16 year olds were in training by the time they reached frontline they would easily be 18-19 year olds. They are like reserves(like cricket 12th man)

Mughal army had 4 million army men in various levels of training(as per Abul Fazl)

4 million is very big number 40 lakh army people for 6-8 crore Indians(in 16th century there were 6 crore Indian population). 6 crore included Afghanistan, pakistan, india, nepal, bhutan, burma, bangladesh etc south asia basically

Kids especially below 15 years old cannot take voilence and killing etc because they are still very innocent and their view of world is simplistic. Further its tough for kids below 15-16 years to stay away from family especially parents. That itself has huge psychological impact on mind being away from family as a kid. Add to that seeing extreme voilence in front of your eyes with people killing each other. And add to that you are also expected to kill other humans, thats even more traumatic. It leads to guilt and distress. So Salim must be going through all this for past 12 years. Like he says he only closed eyes never slept thats because of the voilence he saw everyday in war. The first effect of that war is agressive and voilent behaviour by kids who become adults in war field. Thats what Salim will do in later times. Usually to forget the traumatic stress of war, soldiers also do substance abuse which even Salim did, he will get addicted to drinks and later opium.

I agree with JALK and myviewprem...to some extent.
Yes Anar is the only one who is concerned and also the impact of going to war at such an early age do leave impact.

But still I feel it is too early to confess love

A gradual realisation would look justified. It is like throwing too much in mouth that we can not swallow and relish the taste. Why are the makers in hurry? Are they the same who made Prithvi Vallabh?

Lakshmi, the new promo is kind of a cumulative summary of the story shown so far.

When Saifu was introduced, she was shown as a daughter of a tradesman. At those times, tradesmen did have a better social status and standing than slaves and servants. She was used to the ways of nobles till she found herself suddenly stranded in the desert with an housekeeper. They were forced to act the part of kaneez' in Akbar's court.

If Salim is still a child, she is also a child in some ways. Not everyone in Akbar's harem treated her the same. Salim and Jodha treated her as a lady' while Akbar and Hamida Begam treated her like servant'. Even the other kaneez' treated her with respect and gave importance to her. She is conflicted as to who she actually is. With Salim, the one who kind of saved' her from her attackers in the desert, she kind of recognized herself with him. He was the only one who treated her liked she was his "equal. Added to that was her somehow stumbling onto the conspiracies and finally his banishment(kind of) deepened her conflict regarding herself even more.

Coming to Salim, he was like every other kid, naive and innocent. He believed Daniyal and Murad's words and trusted them. When the boat overturned and he found himself drowning, he didn't understand what happened. Even when Abul Fazl gets blamed, he is not shown to tell about these two. But what made an impact was Anarkali being with him in his time of need. She who tried to protect him ignoring her own peril. Who cared more for his life and health than her own. Especially when he had not treated her nicely from his perspective(like hitting her on that elephant when she wins the game or when he laughs at her when she falls into the water).

Akbar might not really know how Salim ended up in that condition on the throne, but Salim did know. As a child he might not have understood the motives of Daniyal and Murad, but being in the war fields for 12 years has made him aware ot the truth. Of Daniyal and Murad's duplicity.

When Salim sees Anar he says that "moon has risen in his sky after 12 yrs). Sun gives light but also burns. But moonlight is gentle and warm. It gives a person a sense of peace and respite. Because of Ruqayya begum's conspiracy, Jodha's letters doesn't reach Salim. But Anar is shown to have found a way to reach him. And it is her letters that have been giving him the solace that he did need every night after a tiring day of war training or fighting the enemies. It gave him the inspiration to keep going. Even before he saw her, it was her memories that kept him grounded. This was shown with Salim writing shayari's and Mahabat knowing all about Anarkali whom he had never met. She was the one thing that was real and belonged to him.

His coming back was only for Jodha's sake, but Anar also held a huge attraction for him. She was the one person whom he wanted to meet on coming back. So for him to confess his love for her in such early stage of the series is not that much of a leap. The makers did try to show his longing by showing him constantly looking for her from the moment he comes to the door of Agra fort. No one "longs to meet a friend that way nor gets angry as he does. But the screenplay and editing is slightly choppy which is making it hard to connect the dots. Like Hamida begum scene with the fakir shown in between Salim Anarkali meeting scenes. The reason for showing that in that way was to kind of say that on one side Salim is building a relationship with a servant girl while his family is expecting something else from him.

I don't think the love proposal is early in the series as the story actually starts with it. This love has to grow to the stage where Salim cannot live without Anarkali in his life. He has to go to a destructive stage. The difference, misunderstandings and disappointments between Akbar and Salim needs to grow too alongside the love story. There is a lot of story filled with a lot of drama waiting for us. 😆 😆

Loved that, myviewprem.
I do agree that a child who is suddenly taken out of his home where he is surrounded by ppl who care for him and thrown into a war zone where he is told that compassion is useless and death is a solution is bound to have his brains scrambled quite well:(:( Obviously, it is going to affect him and leave long standing negative impact.

Lakshmi, the promo may not exactly match the show's story line, I guess. It did not in KRPK either. I think the makers did want to have some drama factor and that's why the promo was designed the way it was. But I also think, the love confession from Salim does have to come in early bcos there is much to come after that bcos Anar is obviously not going to give him the green signal instantly. So the rejection, then Salim's spiral down to his worst, perhaps worsening relations with Akbar and allowing Ruks to play some more games, plus let Murad- Daniyal - Salim enmity worsen- all of this has to happen and Anar's rejection may be needed to start these tracks off. These tracks are needed for the future story and they need time to develop so maybe the love confession thing is being brought in quick bcos anyhow Salim's confession is not going to start the love track.

Maybe the makers are just paying tribute to the original MEA too bcos in that Salim falls for Anar's statue and instantly goes proposes to her. It is Anar who tells him that this can't happen given she is kaneez.
