CHAPTER 24 - Jigsaw Puzzle
"Adarsh"Swadheenta called out as he was walking towards his car
Adarsh turned around. Swadheenta approached him with Suhasini's gift in her hand. She had completely forgotten about it as she got too engrossed with the case.
"Here , take this"She said handing it to him
"Wow , surprise gift ! You know how to keep your husband happy"Adarsh said, getting pleasantly surprised
"Sure I know that but this one is not from me. Open it and you will find out"Swadheenta said , breaking his bubble
"Ok, I will do it quickly , am running out of time"He started removing the cover
"No, don't do it in such a hurry, you might damage it. Take it to your office and open it at your convenience. Mom made it painstakingly just for you"Swadheenta blurted out
"Mom ? why would she ...?"Adarsh didn't know what to feel
"She wanted to give it for your birhday but could not finish it on time. Now get going, you are already late."Swadheenta explained and walked towards her car.
Adarsh kept the gift on the top of his office cupboard and then went to make an important call.
"Hello Paddy .."Paddy - "
Oh Hello Adarsh. Long time. So ..how's life ?"Adarsh -
"It's good. Thanks for asking. Listen, I need your help"Paddy -
"I knew it the moment you called. No one remembers us until they need our help"
Adarsh -
"I am so sorry. The past few days have been so hectic that I did not get the time. Anyways , can you give me a list of all the doctors in Delhi who cater to high profile clients, especially politicians."
Paddy -
"Sure...not a problem. If I am not wrong this is in relation to Swadheenta's case, isn't it ?"
Adarsh -
"Yes, and I am looking for a particular patient, Mrs Kavita Chaudhary."Paddy -
"Ok, I will put my sources to work. Doctors do not easily divulge their patient's details you see."
Adarsh -
"Yes, I know. You just get me the name, leave the rest to me"
A couple of days later,
"So, our guess was correct. This was the reason Avinash kidnappped his own son"Adarsh remarked. They had managed to get the medical records of his wife Kavita and they say that she had never borne a child.
"Hmm..now I hope we will be able to get justice for Reena"Swadheenta said , happy with their 1st success
"Not so soon Swadheenta. Mom is not going to lose so easily. What I am not getting is why is she helping you. What will she get from that? I am afraid in the end we will find her running circles around us."Adarsh cautioned her
"You are seriously impossible. Why can't she help us ? She also fights for justice and you know that"Swadheenta said angrily
"Ok baba, calm down. I am just not able to make any sense of her actions lately. She says something and ..."Adarsh looked at Swadheenta who appeared to be getting more irriated. He stopped and made the sign of zipping his mouth.
Swadheenta smiled at his antics and went to take shower. Adarsh suddenly remembered somthing and called out her name.
"Swadheenta...Swadheenta, can you listen to me ?""Yes, now what happened ?" Swadheenta asked putting off the shower tap
"Do you have any information on the judicial enquiry ?"Adarsh asked
"Nothing much, they are going to call Dad for interrogation tomorrow"Swadheenta replied , wondering what was wrong with her husband . Why couldn't he let her take a shower peacefully ?
"You know , I have been trying to link all the things related to this inquiry but after a point I get stuck."Adarsh paused to look at his wife who had just come out from the bathroom, looking fresh like a flower, water dripping from her hair, down her neck, only to hide behind her bathrobe and then re-emerge on her smooth legs, flirting with his imagination. Adarsh was spellbound, his mouth wide open.
"What happened ? You are so stuck that you can't even speak!"Swadheenta's words jolted him out
Adarsh reined in his imaginary horses and then continued,
"
See, Mom wants to save Dad from a prison sentence. For that she made the minister own up to the cover up. But there is another charge on him which can put him behind bars. Yes, I am talking about the bribery case. How is he going to explain the 100 crore that has been transferred to his account from Allan Broad ?""You are right Adarsh. This is puzzling me as well. But I think they must have found some solution for this as well. Dad is going to appear before the enquiry committee tomorrow. Things might get clearer after that"Swadheenta remarked.
"This has been like a jigsaw puzzle. We would have almost completed the picture but for a missing piece. And I somehow feel that if we can find this missing piece, we will get the answer to all our questions"Adarsh concluded.
The next day,
Suhasini was intently searching something on her tablet when Manohar entered. She quickly closed it on seeing him and asked him,
"So, how was your day ?""I did as you said, but I am not feeling good about it. You remember I told you about Justice Mehta. He is not going to leave it at that. He has smartly managed to turn the needle the way he wanted. So you should be prepared for his next move."Manohar warned his wife
"You know a deft player is one who uses the opponent to her own advantage. You just relax and watch the fun.Suhasini said smiling.
Then she thought to herself,
" Just hope that he makes his next move soon , time is running out"Suhasini took her phone and went out to the balcony.
"Hello Zubeida . How are you ?"Zubeida, happy to hear from her -
"I am good, life has become so busy since Samar came in our lives. I am really sorry I could not take some time out to call you"Suhasini -
"Oh that's fine. I completely understand. Zubeida , I wanted to ask you something"
Zubeida -
"Yeah sure."Suhasini -
"Does Asad come in your dreams ?"Zubeida, surprised -
"Yes, sometimes. But why are you asking this ?"Suhasini -
"Does he speak to you"Zubeida -
"No, he just smiles, a heavenly calmness and serenity glowing on his face. But Suhasini why all of a sudden this question. Does Abhay too..?"Suhasini cut the call abruptly, leaving Zubeida puzzzled. What was wrong with her ? From her voice she could make out she was deeply tormented about something. She will have to tell Swadheenta about this.
Why was her Abhay not happy ?. Has he not forgiven her ? Suhasini thought to herself after putting down the call. It was slowly getting dark outside , soon her demons would come to haunt her. She knew it was all in her mind but she could not drive them away. However much she tried. She came inside and saw her husband taking out the medicine box. His blood pressure had been running high of late. She could not tell him about her problem. It would make him more tensed. Should she talk to Adarsh about it ? But how would she approach him? He had drifted so far away from her in the last few days. Jaidev and Jaya had just started having a normal marital life. It would not be right to burden them with this. Suhasini hugged herself tightly. No, she was not so weak. She could handle herself. She would have to hold herself together , at least till her plan reaches its desired end.
Something happened the next day that dealt a big blow to her resolve.
P.S. - Rushing to finish this story , but it seems it will take at least 10 more chapters.
