17.1 Johnston to Pietersen, no run, too full, but for once Pietersen mistimes a drive and the ball bobbles to extra cover

17.2 Johnston to Pietersen, no run, almost a yorker, and Pietersen overbalances as he tries to flick the ball through midwicket and he can only bobble it to a fielder

17.3 Johnston to Pietersen, 1 run, firm drive up the ground to long-on

Good, tight bowling has really put the brakes on the innings just as it seemed to be accelerating

17.4 Johnston to Bell, 1 run, pushed into the leg side, the placement more than the power enables the run

17.5 Johnston to Pietersen, 1 run, one foot in the air, flicked wide of mid-on who runs round to stop the ball but cannot prevent the run

17.6 Johnston to Bell, 1 run, punched drive to mid-off, who has dropped ten yards deeper as if to give the single and keep Bell on strike

"Vous faites un trs bonne service parce que en France," dit Michlle Bonnaud, "il n'y a pas des chanes pour regarder le cricket. Merci beaucoup. Bonne journe et bon match!". Merci, merci Michelle.

End of over 18 (4 runs) - England 84/2 (RR: 4.66)

IR Bell 29* (59b 2x4) DT Johnston 4-0-22-0
KP Pietersen 38* (34b 5x4) AC Botha 3-0-10-0

18.1 Botha to Bell, no run, mistimed drive off a ball that bounced more than expected

18.2 Botha to Bell, no run, Bell waits and pushed to cover, for once the fielding is poor as it bounces off the foot, but not far enough to allow the run

18.3 Botha to Bell, no run, enough inswing to make sure that Bell cannot get the ball away

18.4 Botha to Bell, no run, Bell looks to push to the off but gets a thick edge and it trundles to mid-on

18.5 Botha to Bell, no run, full, good line, and Bell can only push the ball back to a grateful Botha

18.6 Botha to Bell, no run, clipped to midwicket

End of over 19 (maiden) - England 84/2

A maiden over for Botha, tight and consistent. As my old club captain used to say to me, "get on with it or get out". I wonder of that thought is going through Vaughan's mind?

19.1 Johnston to Pietersen, 1 run, Pietersen plays an almost mockingly correct forward defensive, seems happy not to run, but spots mid-on is dawdling to the ball and so sprints a single. Bell responds quickly ...

19.2 Johnston to Bell, no run, driven to mid-on. Death by fielder here ...

19.3 Johnston to Bell, no run, Bell can do no more than dig the ball out

19.4 Johnston to Bell, no run, on off stump, punches to mid-on. He has almost single-handedly taken all the momentum out of the innings

19.5 Johnston to Bell, no run, pushed into the covers

19.6 Johnston to Bell, no run, outside off stump at 78mph, Bell looks to cut but misses

End of over 20 (1 run) - England 85/2 (RR: 4.25)

And the fielders go slightly deeper to give him the single!

And back to Will ... who you have to see to appreciate ... he has new contact lenses and is squinting and bumping into things ... it's like working with Mr Magoo. He thinks it makes him more appealing to ladies ...

Yeah, thanks Martin - who, I might point out, still wears glasses. But whatever - at least I can see. Sort of

20.1 Botha to Pietersen, no run, ooh a touch of swing there, and Pietersen tries to drive through cover but gets a thick inside edge

20.2 Botha to Pietersen, 1 run, good line, nice and straight and Pietersen stands tall, massively, punching it to mid-on

20.3 Botha to Bell, 1 run, a firm, elegant on-drive by Bell - reasonably well timed, but without the power needed and it runs to long-on

O'Brien is up to the stumps, by the way, in case I haven't told you

20.4 Botha to Pietersen, 1 run, punched, with fast hands, again down to long-on

England just ticking over here, but you can't help feeling they should be racing along...

20.5 Botha to Bell, 1 run, again, Bell is back onto his stumps, punching it to long-on and again they job through for a single

20.6 Botha to Pietersen, no run, whipped to midwicket, but no run on offer there
Here's the flame-haired Kevin O'Brien into the attack. His hair is very red.

"Anyone else think KP should try to run Bell out?," emails Dawsy. Well, me, Michael Vaughan, David Collier, most of England ...

Ah, there's Phil Simmons spotted in the crowd. Remember him? Of course you do. Almighty biffer he was.

End of over 21 (4 runs) - England 89/2 (RR: 4.23)
