Pakistan arrive at the Asia Cup on the back of a strong tri-series in the UAE where their bowlers dominated proceedings. Mohammad Nawaz’s five-wicket haul in the final, including a hat-trick, highlighted their control in the middle overs, while Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf provided the sharpness with their pace. The batting unit has steadily taken shape in the absence of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, with Fakhar Zaman offering experience at the top and the likes of Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan and Hasan Nawaz showing promise in recent outings.

The conservatism has been shed for something a little more cavalier; star names cast aside for those with a more natural inclination to the format. But tonight is a potential banana skin.
