An attritional session of Test cricket, something that you don't associate with this England side, but they would be happy it has gone their way. 24 overs | 70 runs | 0 wickets. India were disciplined with the ball but luck continued to evade them as the ball went past the edge a few times. They kept it tight and made the England batters work hard for their runs. The ball getting soft and not providing them any assistance also didn't help their cause. But credit to Root and Pope.

STAT: 103rd fifty-plus score for Joe Root (36 X 100s) - joint second most in Tests with Jacques Kallis & Ricky Ponting and only behind Sachin Tendulkar's 119.

Ruthwik: Gill must be careful with the over rate. Less than 50 overs have been bowled in two sessions.

Jadeja to Pope, out Caught by (sub)Dhruv Jurel!! Whatever was said during the huddle, it clearly worked. Ollie Pope rests his head onto the shoulder of his bat and walks away quite reluactantly. India needed a wicket very badly. A teaser of a delivery from Jadeja, gets the ball to spin away outside off from a fuller length and Pope played that with hard hands. Looked to defend into the off-side and got a big deflection off the outside edge to the right of the keeper. Jurel shows sharp relfexes to claim an excellent catch. Pope c (sub)Dhruv Jurel b Jadeja 44(104) [4s-4]

Jadeja to Pope, THATS OUT!! Caught!!

Joe Root had faced just two balls (singles off both) of the five overs Jasprit Bumrah bowled in the second session today, Ollie Pope facing the other 28.

54.5: Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, OUT! CASTLED! BOWLED!

Jasprit Bumrah finally gets a wicket to his name after putting in the hard yards with the ball! Landed on a good length by Bumrah, just outside off and it just jags back in a long way off the pitch, cutting Brook into half, and cramping him for space. Harry Brook draws his front foot out to block, but an inside edge is induced as the ball smashes behind into the stumps.

Harry Brook departs for 11 (20) and England are 172/4.

54.5 W Bumrah to Brook, out Bowled!! Chopped on? India strike back after tea. Number one bowler in the world gets number one Test batter. A 140ks nip-backer from Bumrah, Brook was hanging around in front of off stump, looking to push and prod into the off-side. The ball swung away and snaked in sharply and hit the top of off stump before sneaking past the inside edge. Right through the gate and there was barely any foot movement from Brook there. Brook b Bumrah 11(20) [4s-2] Bumrah to Brook, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!

Sainath: Gill captaincy was excellent today. Even though there was not enough for bowlers, field placement was spot on that helped in controlling scoring rate.
