An attritional session of Test cricket, something that you don't associate with this England side, but they would be happy it has gone their way. 24 overs | 70 runs | 0 wickets. India were disciplined with the ball but luck continued to evade them as the ball went past the edge a few times. They kept it tight and made the England batters work hard for their runs. The ball getting soft and not providing them any assistance also didn't help their cause. But credit to Root and Pope.

Landed on a good length by Bumrah, just outside off and it just jags back in a long way off the pitch, cutting Brook into half, and cramping him for space. Harry Brook draws his front foot out to block, but an inside edge is induced as the ball smashes behind into the stumps.

Sainath: Gill captaincy was excellent today. Even though there was not enough for bowlers, field placement was spot on that helped in controlling scoring rate.
