No. Sir, still finding players who were roaming in the garden instead of fielding that day.
Congratulations to Team India and to Gill for his POTM Award.
What a test match it is!! The last three days were thrillers, every moment the game changed its course and the final day completely belonged to India!!
The final day got off to a delayed start as rain played spoilsport. There was no play for close to two hours. However, Day 5 finally got underway at 5:10 PM IST. India dominated the opening session on the final day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston after scalping three wickets. Akash Deep provided the best start possible to the visitors after he dismissed overnight batters Ollie Pope and Harry Brook.
However, Akash Deep's removal from the attack eased pressure on England as Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith dug their heels in to frustrate India. However, right on the cusp of Lunch, Washington Sundar got a wicket against the run of play as he sent England captain Ben Stokes back to the hut for 33.
Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes then put on a brief partnership in the second session to frustrate India. However, this stand was finally ended by Prasidh Krishna as he got his first wicket of the game. Jamie Smith was the main thorn in India's eyes and he fell in trying to go for a third consecutive six off the bowling of Akash Deep. Smith was the top-scorer for England as he registered 88 runs.
After Smith's dismissal, it was a matter of time before India cleaned up England's tail. The final wicket was scalped by Akash Deep as the visitors registered a win for the ages. It was quite fitting that Shubman Gill took the final catch as the India captain had a memorable game, scoring 430 runs. India and England will now take each other at the Lord's Cricket Ground in the third Test, beginning July 10.
Key highlights from Day 5 of the second Test between India and England
Bumrah will be back for Lord's as Gill confirmed. Archer was seen bowling earlier today. What a series we have in prospect as we go into the third Test. The only thing missing is a better balance between bat and ball. Let's see how that aspect turns out going forward. For now, India can revel in their achievement and they'll hope that this is the start of a glorious new era under a captain whose bat is doing all the talking.
Aged 25 years & 301 days, Shubman Gill becomes the youngest Indian captain to win a Test overseas; the previous youngest being Sunil Gavaskar (26y 202d) vs NZ in Auckland in 1976.
