Disfigure the face of the dead body beyond recognition, have it wear the person's outfit and accessories. Lo and behold, you have a "replacement" dead body for the person.

Frankly, it will be the most common trope if this replacement happens... It has already been shown several times. One more won't be a surprise.

True that... It is the most common trope with disfigured dead bodies.

Well, he should be involved somehow... After all, it is "his" dead body and "he" is the one who is missing. And in such instances, there are usually two answers: either the couple is the mastermind pair who did some crime or the "dead" person is the mastermind and has a lover outside.
